Great concept - chess made accessible
Easy and intuitive app that literally lets you tackle chess puzzles from the minute you download. Beautiful graphics and animations. With puzzles that gradually get more difficult and complex, helping you to build in different chess concepts into your gameplay.
However for an app that is centred around learning chess concepts bit by bit, there could be more learnings provided. Down the line it would be good to see a feature added to allow you to read about or study the concept featured in the puzzle you have just overcome - similar to elevates brain training app. I think it would help embed some of the concepts and accelerate learning.
Great Game
Brilliant fun - challenging but with an appreciated levity. Great for keeping the brain active with problem solving puzzles, and a nice change from other tactics type apps.
The timed events are great too, though I would love to be able to access them after they end so I can complete them, even if I don’t get the bonus for doing so time.
100% would (and have) recommend(ed) !
Nice game spoiled by adverts
I appreciate that adverts are an unfortunate necessity if the developer is to make money and I do play many puzzle apps and live with the inevitable adverts. So I was fully expecting adverts with this game but wasn’t prepared with just how many there are.
The game plays reasonably for the first few puzzles lulling you into thinking that the adverts are going to be tolerable but reach a certain number of games (I wasn’t counting but I would guess around ten) and then the deluge of advert starts. It then feels like you are watching continuous adverts interrupted by occasional short puzzles.
I presume the idea is to get you hooked so that you might be prepared to pay the advert removal fee. And do you know, it almost worked with me - initially I simply deleted the app, but a day or so later I thought “actually it was quite a nice game I’ll check out the price to remove the adverts”, I imagined it would be £2 or so and I was ready to pay that, but it’s £4.49 which I feel is too much.
So I walked away from what is probably a pretty nice application under the covers.
Shame the adverts are too excessive and the price to remove them too high.
