A simple fun filled phonics app.

Thousands of schools use games from in their daily phonics teaching. Now, some of that PhonicsPlay fun is available in an app. Alien brothers Obb and Bob guide children through an ongoing sequence of mini-games that rehearse key skills from Phase 2 of the Letters and Sounds programme that is used widely in UK schools.

The app is simple to navigate. Children can play independently and can continue playing as long as they like without the game coming to an end. Alternatively, for any parents feeling a bit bemused about phonics and how it is taught these days, this app is a great opportunity for playing and learning together.

This app is for children in the early stages of learning phonics and covers: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, l.

This app isn't designed to teach phonics - human beings will always do that job best. Instead it was designed to be a simple and enjoyable way for children to rehearse and build on what they have already learned. As with any new skill, the more you rehearse it, the more automatic it becomes.

There is no in-app purchasing in this game.

Need more phases

We find that although the website is wonderful and has lots of different phases, the app is lacking. Its still a great app and is very good at what it does, but we really do need the other phases.
Also, our younger children find that the changing between activities is confusing, rather than being able to change to different activities yourself.

An excellent education tool - 4yo loves it!!

My daughter loves this, because it compliments the excellent full website, which we have access to and is utilised by her Primary school.

The audio is clear and easy to understand and I believe alongside human interaction (parents/teachers) this is bringing my girl on faster than her years.

I'd ignore the 1star review personally - definitely a 5 from me!

Poor and annoying

We find the man who reads the instructions for the games extremely annoying and dull with no enthusiasm. How can kids be inspired when the instructor sounds so boring and uninteresting?! The animation is also so poor and basic compared to other phonic apps and resembles something created by an enthusiastic school child after reading the dummies guide to photoshop. It's also quiet even at a loud setting. Not impressed by this. Maybe the online version is better, I don't know, however this app falls short of all of my families expectations and not worth the money.
