Prey: Tracking & Security
All-in-one device fleet management
Enroll iPhones and iPads into Prey or manage your entire inventory on the go. With this iOS app, admins can monitor and secure their mobile fleet directly from their iPhone or iPad.
Unified fleet monitoring
Oversee your entire inventory regardless of the operating system. Trigger actions and track locations for devices running Android, ChromeOS, Windows, Ubuntu, and macOS, all from a single iOS dashboard.
Note on OS compatibility: To ensure the highest security standards, available features are OS-specific. Capabilities such as Kill Switch, Remote Lock, or Missing Reports vary based on the target device’s operating system and permissions.
Core capabilities
- Always-on tracking: Precise location data and Geofences with automated alerts.
- Remote security: Wipe, Lock, Reset, and Retrieve files to protect sensitive data.
- Evidence: Gather network data, photos/screenshots (opt-in), and location history.
- Fleet automation: Schedule security actions, manage device loans, and set custom team roles.
Note: Features vary by plan. Please select the plan that best suits your organization’s needs.
Security first: Authentication
To provide the highest level of protection, Prey uses password-only authentication. Requiring full credentials instead of Face-ID or Fingerprints ensures that only authorized admins can execute sensitive security commands, eliminating risks associated with biometric bypasses.

Had my laptop stolen at least 3000mi from home and received the first report 4 month later with lots of useful informations. The police sadly didn’t bother. Received another report from a different location and person roughly two month later. Forwarded everything to a nearby police station, and they caught that person. Could identify my laptop by providing the unlock password and the serial number, and got my device back 7 month after it had been stolen. That’s hugely impressive !Thank you, Prey !
Frustratingly Glitch Filled

Every year you have to update the Apple certificate and this is never without problems. Usually wasting a whole day or longer. It works on the main computer but fails on additional devices. I cannot re enroll my iPhone or iPad again this year. I can’t even delete and re add them. In fact, I cannot log in to either device without being told I have the wrong password. Changed password multiple times no improvement. This app is a great idea, but the annual issues have reached the point of my giving up on it. Instructions on the email are poor, and the Help section is of no use. There is no means to contact an actual person. So I have finally given up on this app entirely. I cannot recommend it at all and my advice would be to avoid it.
Been sitting there quietly until needed

Have only need this when I have misplaced my phone and want to know if it's at home or work. I like the fact it's quietly hidden and there if one day I need to call on it if my phone is stolen. Great app.
You’ll need a computer to download a certificate in order to use on iOS

Thinking the app would be a great tool if my iPhone or iPad are lost or stolen I’ve downloaded on both. Thankfully I didn’t upgrade to an annual plan as the app won’t work if my understanding is correct. In order for you to use the app on iOS you need to use Apple Push Notification Service by downloading Prey’s Certificate and then uploading it to Apple. Only issue I have is despite clicking on the image in order to download a plist file it will not work and I’m guessing it’s because you have to do this process on a computer or laptop. As I stopped using a laptop in favour of the iPad Pro two years ago I cannot use the full range of services provided until I go to the library and download the plist to then upload it to Apple in order to use Push Notifications. Not necessarily Prey at fault here but I think they could make it clearer.
