Purple Alert is a community minded app for people with dementia if they are missing.

Purple Alert is a free app and has been designed by people living with dementia and carers, Alzheimer Scotland staff, Police Scotland, Dementia Friends Scotland, Health and Social Care Partnerships and Emergency Services.

Purple Alert allows the carer of a person living with dementia to create a profile for them and share it with the community should they ever go missing. The community of users can keep eyes and ears on the ground and immediately help with the search.

Purple Alert is a free service offered and supported by Alzheimer Scotland.

Purple Alert is not an emergency service. Before raising a Purple Alert, always phone 999.

Great but limited

This is a great app to have access to information and contacts but it was difficult to set up. I registered 5 times before any confirmation email arrived. Then it’s not exactly set up correct as it does not allow you to enter the person who you are caring for address. It’s the address of the carer not the person who you are caring for. I’m 120 miles away so local info around me is useless it should be where the person I’m caring for.

Developer Response ,

Hi there, sorry you had problems setting it up, but glad is resolved now. Re the person in your care's address, we decided to remove that field as it poses a privacy concern. However, before raising an alert, you will be prompted to select the area on a map: 'last seen from'. This will set the 'epicentre' of the Purple Alert radius and anyone with the app within 20 miles radius will be notified. Please feel free to get in touch for further clarifications.

Needs further enhancement

App is easy to set up but it does not integrate with password managers (which it should) or offer to use biometric or 2FA! I’m this day and age these features should be designed in.

Would also like to be able to add an address for person under care - a comment also made by another reviewer.

Developer Response ,

Hi Malcolm, thanks for your feedback, we'll certainly consider it in our next development. Re the address of the person you're caring for, we removed that feature as it poses a privacy concern. However, when setting the location to raise an alert, you can pinch the map and move it to the desired location.
Do drop us an email if you would like to chat this further. Thanks, Purple Alert team.

Can not get signed up

I’ve been trying to sign up to this app for months, once inputting my email address etc it states an email will be sent & to click on the link in email.
No email is ever received & ive tried 4 different email addresses.

I’ve also clicked the button that states “didn’t receive email” - no luck.

I’ve also tried emailing Alzheimer’s Scotland - no response.

Anyone any ideas??

Developer Response ,

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you had a negative experience and forgive us for such late response. Please do get in touch on purplealert@alzscot.org and we'll help you setting the app up.
