'New and exciting...not only is this good for reading it is also a great resource for creative writers.'

The Quick Fictions app brings together a rich variety of bite-size stories to read on the bus, in the subway/tube or while the kettle boils. Each story delivers a lasting impression, packing a punch beyond its 300 word limit. These innovative pieces come from some of the most exciting writers at work today.

Swipe the screen slowly and you can carefully read through the stories one by one. Give the screen a quick swipe and the stories will whizz by, eventually settling on a random tale. If you develop a fondness for a particular writer, you can save their story as a favourite. And if you know who or what you're looking for you can also find stories by author or title.

Quick Fictions is the brainchild of Professor Nicholas Royle. It grew out of his interest in experimental projects and new kinds of writing. In particular, he wanted to explore the question of how to write - inventively, thoughtfully, memorably - in the age of the short attention span.

Quick Fictions began as a biannual short fiction event held at the University of Sussex. Each night features twenty brand new stories, each fewer than 300 words, read by their authors.

And you can be part of the app too; follow the instructions in the app to submit your story.

Brilliant for readers of literary flash fiction

I first came across this app because many of my lecturers from Sussex University have been published on it. Limited to 300 words, the stories can be read within the busiest of lifestyles. This doesn't, however, limit their literary ambition (if anything it heightens it): the calibre of the writers is consistently impressive, the topics and styles cover an interesting range, every story is both a pleasure to read and many are thought provoking. I can't recommend it enough.

Well written, well designed... Well good!

What a great idea for an app! Some of the stories are shorted than 50 words, which I really like. They are high quality and often thought-provoking. Great if you want a hit of quality literature in the go!

Big worlds in few words

Whatever mood you're in, there's a story to fit it.
