QuickShade 4+

Really good. Lets me dim my two external monitors which aren't affected by the normal Mac brightness controls without fiddling with the awful monitor menus.

There is a bug however. When Quickshade is running, you can't close the permissions/access dialogue boxes. You have to quit Quickshade to close them.

QuickShade does what it claims to, and maps neatly to the F1/F2 keys (or any other function keys you wish). In case anyone is confused: this is for non-Apple external monitors! You shouldn’t need it if you have an Apple laptop or an iMac.

Like many similar apps, I think it works by drawing a grey veil over the screen. In other words, it’s not as elegant as using nativedisplaybrightness, which uses the DDC/CI functionality on supported monitors to control the brightness of the monitor’s own backlight.

My LG 4k monitor allows DDC with my old MacBook Pro, but my new Mac mini M1 doesn’t support it over either HDMI or USB-C. So until Apple gets its act together and I can use nativedisplaybrightness again, QuickShade is doing a fine job.

Perfect brightness adjuster. I love how low the brightness goes BUT, eery time I switch tabs, the shades are taken off breifly for a second and my screen goes bright then back to low brightness. Please fix this!
