Description

A news reader for iOS with support for various sync services.

Reeder 4 adds new features like…
- The new Bionic Reading mode
- An in-app Read Later service which syncs with iCloud
- Image previews in the articles list (finally)
- Search
- Much improved article viewer
- More layout options
- Improved reader view
- More shortcuts, matching the ones of Reeder for Mac

Supported sync services:
- Feedbin
- Feedly
- Feed Wrangler
- FeedHQ
- NewsBlur
- The Old Reader
- Inoreader
- BazQux Reader
- Instapaper
- Pocket

If you want to use a self-hosted service, Reeder should work with services which use the Fever or the Google Reader API. Or just standalone RSS (without syncing) if you don't want to use any service.

Reeder 4 is also available for macOS.

Please note: If you rely on image caching, this feature unfortunately wasn't ready for the 4.0 release but it's in the works.

What’s New

Version 4.1.2

IMPROVED:
• Reduced resistance when dismissing the image viewer

FIXED:
• Possible crash when setting Firefox or SnowHaze as default browser
• More Pocket sync issues. Pocket syncing should be completely fixed now. If you're still seeing errors, you might want to try to do a full resync (see Pocket account settings) to get everything working correctly.
• Various other issues

Editors' Notes

Even if you’ve never heard of RSS — Really Simple Syndication – before, chances are some of your favorite news sources distribute their articles in this venerable format that’s been around since the early days of the Internet. Adding a RSS reader to your daily app flow can help you stay in touch with what’s happening in your favorite interests, and Reeder 4 is an extremely useful and elegant way to access the vast and diverse number of RSS feeds out there.

Essential, as always

I’ve been using Reeder since v1, and it’s been potentially my most used iOS app in that time, so I’ve been keenly anticipating the new version. It’s fundamentally exactly the same as before - a simple RSS reader, but I can feel the care and attention that has gone into updating the app. Everything just feels like it’s been tightened up - a rare app where it feels like the creator uses it daily too and has made the changes they feel will fit best. One feature I would like to see a return of is sorting oldest to newest.

Nice but not as polished as hoped

This is a nice update in many ways but it’s definitely not as polished as many other apps on the market now. The lovely design aesthetic is still there. But no haptic feedback, no automatic dark mode switching, no caching, and swiping down as opposed to left to read the next article is...well, it feels old fashioned. Oh and the image previews aren’t great - the large are massive and the medium are tiny!

There’s a lot to like here. The little animations are cute and, as mentioned, the design aesthetic is lovely. But the competition is strong out there now. Maybe in future updates Reeder will reclaim the crown. It was my most-loved app for years. Hopefully it will be again one day

EDIT: After nearly a week of using the new app it’s beginning to really grow on me. A lot. There have been regular updates and I hope that these continue. More integrated haptic feedback, an automatic dark mode and image caching will make this the most gorgeous app of its kind. The Read it Later and Instapaper integrations are much more valuable than I first thought! If you’re on the fence about buying it, don’t be - it’s a lovely app and worth the investment.
