Ratings and Reviews
Useful but...
Got this several years ago and found it very useful for compiling reference lists, especially when showing students how they were meant to format lists in their dissertations. However, it’s been failing to find books from their ISBN codes of late and is now showing on my iMac as an incompatible update. That's a 2011 model that still does all I need but runs High Sierra, so is losing support.
Microsoft and Adoble have dropped support for anything on High Sierra - but it would be nice if developers didn’t abandon it in the race to support Apple Silicon.
Excellent software for academia
This software has saved me so much time from referencing. Each source which I wanted to cite in my work was saved in Reference Tracker first. A fully formatted reference list was then ready for me when I finished writing my essays. I found Reference Tracker to be quick and accurate. The time saved for me is the most valued outcome. I had more time to read for my studies and focus on my writing quality. I have checked the exported references against my universities guidelines and have found no errors. Im so glad I bought this!
not so great
This app is really good at generating a reference list for the end of the document, but it does not allow you to add references as you write your assignment in real time. For example, if I use the Vancover style system and decide to add a reference not already in the body of my text, then I have to go in an manually change all the numbers in the references I have already transferred over, as it will not do this automatically. Also, if I use the Harvard system and have two references with the same name and date, it will not number these in the body of the text to deferentiate. This was a very expensive mistake for me to make!
Developer Response ,
Check out the "Automatically number references" options in Reference Tracker's preferences window, this may help with the situation you described.
