Remoter - Excellent solution for remote accessing MAC or PC
Researched and tried quite a few free VNC type apps, many of them struggled when trying to represent mouse controls. For a reasonable price however, Remoter seem to have the perfect solution, put the touch pad on the iPad screen. Bingo, accurate control and intuitive use. I now remote straight into both MAC using VNC and screen sharing, or Windows using RDC. Both working really well. Well done!
Some good parts Some terrible parts
This used to be my go to app for SSH and VNC, but lately I am experiencing lots of issues and the forums haven’t had any activity in years, so seems pointless to look for help there. No email address to get support from the developer.
The app in its basic form works well. You can SSH and VNC to machines and all is fine. I use an iPad Pro with keyboard. Sometimes I find that if I use split window with safari or another app, the Remoter will automatically grab back control of the keyboard, meaning you cannot search something on the web while this is open. Sometimes I will connect to a machine and use the virtual trackpad but it seems to lock to either right clicking or centre clicking rather than a single left click. It’s very annoying and seems to be the command button in the hidden pop up that keeps turning on and doesn’t turn back off without pulling up the window and double selecting it.
So as I say, it works for the most part, but has some terrible drawbacks that mean I am on the look out for a better split window SSH system
Abandonware
This has a bug where it doesn’t remember the zoom level, etc when disconnected despite the option for it to remember being enabled. There’s been no updates for over a year and the forums have had ZERO activity in the last 5 years. Abandonware. Don’t buy.
