Probably the best iPhone & iPad pixel art app
Asprite has been saying they’ll do an iPad version for years but it never happened. Someone had to get around to it eventually and Resprite is essentially a remake of it. It doesn’t have every feature Aseprite does but it has most of the ones that matter and it works great.
There’s a few browser based game engines with mobile layouts these days so with this and a site or app for making music quickly, you could make a game entirely on your phone or tablet now.
Sprite sheets, layering and frames for animating are all in there and the controls are pretty easy once you take a quick look at the controls. Tap 2 fingers to undo, 3 to redo and hold your finger down to use an eye dropper tool for picking a colour from the canvas. Some of those are changeable too.
With the iOS release of this, buying the app once gets you the app for this and iPad OS. iPad with an Apple Pencil is the best way to experience the app by far but the touch controls work well and if you’re travelling light, you can get some pixel art done anywhere.

Full of features, but sometimes unintuitive UI
I’ve really just picked this app up recently, to finesses some character animation for a game.
It seems to have most of what I need, particularly good animation control and multiple layers. Currently finding my way around it.
I find myself frequently googling for instructions, though, because many basic operations are counterintuitive. For example, I could not initially work out how to add a new animation frame; the pallet-editing controls are not easy either. On the one hand, I’m sure I’ll learn my way around it; on the other hand, it could probably be a little easier for newcomers.
The proof is in the pudding though. Excited to see how I get on with actually using it.
