Description
RetirePlan is an iPad app that helps you answer all your questions about your retirement. If you have questions about your retirement finances, this is the app to answer them.
When can I retire?
How much do I need to save every year?
How much money will I get every year in my retirement?
How long will my money hold out in my retirement?
In just a few seconds you can enter your data and assumptions and the graph will update to show you if your plan will work. If you have more time to spend you can enter as much detail as you want to refine your plan.
The sliders give you an easy way to see what different values will do to your plan. Need to enter a value outside the slider range? press the amount and a calculator will pop up to let you enter whatever number you need. The slider range will update automatically.
Bring up the spreadsheet to see all the details for every year of the plan.
Email your results.
Use the settings to add your spouse, include or remove Social Security, and show or hide inflation and interest rates.
Use the + button to add a pension, send a child to college, large upcoming expenses, add additional rates of return and retirement income assumptions.
include Tax assumptions to get an even more accurate picture of your future.

Greatly improved scrolling for phone users. Buttons should not longer fall off the bottom of the screen on smaller phones, and scrolling around to view everything should be much more natural.

Excellent app; but important improvement required!
I have recently started using this app having been recommended it by a financial advisor. It is very easy to use and has provided excellent clarity to my financial position which has given me the confidence to retire many years earlier than I originally envisaged.
However I totally agree with another user’s comments in that the app should include the functionality to enter different rates of return for different asset categories. For example, in the UK, cash saving rates are as low as 1.5% but the forecast returns for stocks are likely to be significantly higher. This means you have to calculate a weighted average return dependant on the mix and value of assets held.
Pretty close to being useless
This app is fundamentally broken.
The reason for this is the lack of ability to enter things like the rate of tax, and to specify different rates of return for different asset types.
Which renders the thing pointless, because to get anything close to a meaningful result, you have to go work a bunch of things out in a spreadsheet. And if you do that, then this app offers you nothing, as you can quite quickly build a model in Numbers or Excel in, maybe, fifteen minutes.
And most importantly, that model will be far more accurate than this app offers.
I'm guessing that the developer has gone for simplicity over accuracy, but the net result is an app that gives very misleading results.
And hence, it can be worth no more than a single star.
Very easy
This app can be as easy or as detailed as you wish. To get started it is very easy, however as we move forward maybe decide to include an extra pension, varying rates of usage of funds or change the date when you retire-the app makes it really quite simple. It is also worth noting that the app takes the currency that the iPad is set for and it's not just for US dollars.
