Wouldn’t it be great to be rewarded for making good choices? Track your activities like walking and cycling to win prizes, collect points and redeem them on high street gift vouchers or donate them to your favourite charity.

BetterPoints is ideal if you’d like to ditch the car and opt for other greener ways to get around, for your health and for the environment. It’s easy to get proper rewards for doing good things:
- Install the app and register
- Join a challenge
- Track some activities
- Earn BetterPoints
- Redeem your points or donate to a charity of your choice

As seen on BBC News as the app that gives you free beer for cycling: “Every time you take a sustainable journey, you log it on an app. At the end of the trip, you get points which can be cashed in for rewards. They are kind of like air-miles, the more journeys you do, the more points you get and once you have enough, you can choose a reward”. BBC

Here’s what people have found about using the app:

“I find BetterPoints is great for motivating me to cycle and walk that bit further and for tracking my route. Choosing to donate points to charity or reward yourself is also a fantastic incentive.”
Richard, Reading

“The app was easy to download and I liked it so much that I got my sister, husband and daughter on it too! As a family we’re looking at a healthier lifestyle and it’s a great incentive. I also like the fact that it’s designed around my community and what’s local to me.”
Marie, Skelmersdale

“I really like that you can choose to donate some or all of your points to local groups as it means we get double the value – people getting more active and money being spent in Salford on good causes!”
Catriona, Salford

“BetterPoints gave me the nudge I needed to get off my posterior and get back into being more active.”
Peter, Sutton

“What started out as "Oh well, let's see if I can earn the odd voucher" has genuinely changed my habits!”
Liz, Birmingham

“BetterPoints is more than the rewards, it's meeting goals and then looking back and self-reflecting, and realising how far I've come makes me feel really proud of my achievement.”
Vidya, Hampshire

“The BetterPoints app is really easy to use, well laid out and provides goals and rewards all displayed in one place. I find myself wanting to walk for longer periods of time to see the points add up, me and my son have opted to walk to and from school rather than going in the car.”
Kimberly, Skelmersdale

The BetterPoints app uses the GPS to record the length of your journeys to allow us to award BetterPoints and BetterTickets.

We do our best to minimise battery use while tracking activities, but note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. We recommend a full charge overnight.

If you have any problems using the app, please email - we’ll try our best to help you!

Might as well call it Bettertickets now

I’ve enjoyed using this app for years and especially early on was very pleased with the amount of points it bestowed and what I could buy with them, however a consistent theme has been a decrease in the points awarded to the point now where you seem to earn no points at all for activity, only tickets for entry into a prize draw where you MIGHT win them.
As someone who’s just short of 5,000 points this is quite irritating as I’m so close to being able to redeem them. Now I’m reduced to hoping I win a draw at some point, but even if I do, I’ll always just be just short of £10 worth of points and so on. The points I had are almost worthless in essence.
I’ve nevertheless been earning tickets for several months now but haven’t won a draw. I do wonder what my odds are now of getting any more points again.
My understanding is that other schemes that reward activity are available and having been happy with BetterPoints for some time, I fear my only option is to investigate these alternatives.

Developer Response ,

Since you live in an area that no longer has a funded challenge - that is why you are only earning BetterTickets. This enables others who cannot take part in the funded schemes to still be able to use the app to track activity, earn virtual medals and generally see how active they are being.
If you write into me via the app's Help section - I can check how many points you do have and see if there are any options less than £5 you could look into.

BetterPoints App makes prizes

I enjoy using the app as it encourages more exercise and has improved my walking distance. I really enjoy the levels and enjoy being entered into the BetterPoints raffle. When I earned enough points to redeem a gift card at the time there wasn’t the shops gift cards available and I messaged BetterPoints and Uzma was very helpful and informed me they were being ordered and on their way- I received them promptly and was very happy with the rewards. Uzma gave fantastic customer service and great communication. I love using the app. The only reason it currently is rated 4/5 stars from me is because the app uses a lot of battery life. However now I have a battery power pack I can use the app on the go. Download and use BetterPoints App today- it not only gives you rewards but improves the environment by swapping that car journey for a walk, run or cycle and betters your fitness.

Waste of time and battery!

This app earns points that are absolutely worthless, unless you are in a particular area/scheme. Not what I thought it was going to be!!!
I thought I would earn points that would eventually convert to vouchers, but you only get points that you can convert to vouchers if you are lucky enough to be picked out in the weekly draw.
After almost a year all this app has done for me is reduce my battery life. If you want an app where there is a very remote chance that you will be lucky enough to win a few points to convert to a £2 or £5 voucher once in a blue moon (and I never have) then this is the one for you. If you want an app where you can be motivated by earning something you can redeem, then give it a miss. The automatic tracking doesn’t even recognise when you start and end a walk. If you start a walk but forget to press ‘end’ before you get in your car, the whole walk gets disqualified. If you don’t press ‘start’ and you rely on automatic tracking you will find yourself in the same position.

Hello Emma,
Sorry to hear you've not been happy with the app. We have many funded programmes where you have the ability to earn BetterPoints but these are restricted to certain localities as partners pay for them like local councils, universities or NHS CCGs.
We have app users in the national programme that are motivated by the possibility of winning points, but moreover that they can see how active they have been each week.
