New Review for slight tweaks

Okay, so my last review stated that the game is well worth the £10 price tag, I reckon they could charge £15 and it people would still buy it because it’s an amazing port and the controls are really good (albeit a little struggle to get used to at first, but that’s the same with almost any decent game on mobile), I have one issue, when I open the game, it lets me change orientation so I can flip my phone and it’ll switch that way up, until I’ve been playing for 10 minutes, then I can’t change the orientation, it locks for some reason, which is annoying when my charger is to my left(/right) and the port is on the right(/left) as the game is pretty battery intensive (even on an iPhone XR, I get a couple hours if I’m at battery but if not I need it on charge), please release a small update for this.

My other issue is the crashes, I have R:TW and R:TW:BI, both seem to have issues with crashing, not so much in the battles as I’d expected, it’s weirdly on the battle map I get most of my crashes, especially towards the mid-late game stage, I get crashes every 10-20 minutes late game. If there’s any further optimisation possible, please implement, even if it’s a slight reduction to graphics on the units on the battle map.

Thank you for the game, keep up the good work.

Brilliant! Except....

The touch controls can be a little fiddly in battle and campaign. Other than that this game really is brilliant. Graphics are good, there is hardly any lag, which explains the unit size. Battles are pretty good though I find myself pausing when I want to readjust my formation, especially the hide in the corner routine. Diplomacy is just as I remember. AI makes alliance then stabs you in the back. Well worth the money. I'm begging Feral to release Medieval Total War 2, please.

Wanted to review after latest update. Note to developers. The added factions are brilliant. Been able to scroll down in RomeShell is a god send. While a good idea, I don’t like range display for missile units. Also game has become very glitchy especially in battles, and the game crashes more often than usual. Oh yes please release Medieval Total War 2.

Worth every penny

I’ve had this game awhile now and usually don’t write a review, but I had to make an exception for this game. For the price it is a truly remarkable masterpiece that frankly blows its neighbouring strategy games out of the water. The attention to detail is incredibly refreshing and the depth to the game promises an immersive experience that is seldom found in other IOS games. No in-app purchases, just a classic masterpiece that asks for a modest one time purchase that is well worth the spend.

It seems the crashing issue after some battles has been fixed so there really isn’t a reason this game shouldn’t have a 5 star score. Also it is hands down the best transitioned game to IOS I’ve experienced. Devs- we’ll done!

I’m waiting for another Total War game to release on the IOS. Maybe Shogun?

The bees knees !!! I love Rome

I’ve always loved the Rome: total war games. More than any other, my obsession with the ancient Romans, barbarians, Greeks and all the other awesome factions never lets my boredom die! Only one thing stopped me from getting playing the total war games and that was not being able to use my mums laptop as she was convinced. My total war games, ruined her pcs performance :( she was wrong. It was my brother rinsing RuneScape using bots downloaded from dodgy sites that kept giving my mums laptop viruses. Atleast he got 99 woodcutting right?

Anyways. I’m so happy they brought out an iOS version it’s mad. So convenient yet I don’t play as much as I would on pc. It’s perfect!! Please bring out more content and more total war games. I’d like to play as more factions. Medieval total war would be cool too!!

Incredible..

Amazing game, used to play it on PC and couldn’t believe it is now available on iPhone. The controls are absolutely fine once you get the hang of them, it just takes a bit more patience than using a mouse, obviously. In battles it is best to unselect a unit before clicking on the next, otherwise it is easy to send the first charging off in a random direction. Stick to that and you’ll have no problems. Only one tiny niggle is the difficulty trying to rotate a unit or group of units. Not a deal breaker though. The game works incredibly well on iPhone, the only time it crashes is when the battery level falls below 20%. Just keep your phone charged. Oh and yes Medieval 2 would be a good shout!

I was sceptical at first. I spent many hours, weeks and months playing the various Titles of Total War on PC. You will not be disappointed. It takes a couple of hours to get used to the controls.... touch screen versus mouse but stick with it. I think this is probably once of the best PC to IOS conversions I have seen. It plays very smoothly on the IPad 2017. I can't wait to play the other offerings....Barbarian Invasion and Alexander. The only thing I haven't managed to work out is how to get a straight skirmish line in front of the opposition.....it's a bit random and you have to keep on picking a spot before the game decides where to put your line of troops. Still, well worth the tenner. Any plans to release more Total War titles????

Great game, but controls need improvement.

Game is definitely worth 5 stars in every way. Especially in comparison with other so called “games” on App Store. There are however some issues with controls. Slide with two fingers function often doesn’t respond, or just doesn’t work at all so it’s really hard to send troops in desired direction, and in desired formation. Also tilting camera up and down during battle is pretty much impossible. Also there should be button for troops to switch from ranged combat to close combat. That’s about all faults with controls I can think off now. Also could you please release game

Medieval: Total War ? I’m sure many people would gladly pay for it including me :D

Developer Response ,

Thank you for buying Rome: Total War.

The two finger gesture for troop formations requires you to hold down your fingers without moving until the glow appears under your fingers. Please make sure you wait until the glow appears and it will always work.

Great support from Feral

I purchased this game in 2016 on my iPad upon release, a little hard to control at first but improved, amazing game that I sank so many hour in on original Pc release back in the day! Amazing port, well worth it. When I saw this out for iPhone now aswell I immediately wanted it on there too for convenience but noticed it was £9.99 rather than the cloud symbol, leading me to believe I had to pay a further £9.99!!! So I emailed Feral querying this, I received a reply within an hour assuring me that it wouldn’t charge me again and if it did then they would support me with this, BUT upon selecting to pay for it again it notified me I already had it and it’s free. Amazing service from the devs

Imperator!

A mightily impressive port of everyone’s favourite Total War game.

Sure, the controls are clunkier than on the PC (they were always going to be), and sometimes leave you accidentally charging your cavalry face-first into a Macedonian phalanx. But this can be easily forgiven in light of how perfect the port is in every other way - you can even still use the cheat codes! And in a way, it’s a step up on the PC game, as you can drop in and out to your campaign whenever you want.

If you liked the original masterpiece, buy this. If you like historical games, buy this. If you like strategy games, buy this. Heck, just buy it, whoever you are! (Maybe that’ll encourage them to port Medieval II some day...?!)

Amazing, except one issue

Good, except for one major (easy to fix for devs) UX issue. When clicking through all the units it always makes you start from the beginning after taking an action. Clicking through the city’s when they are open always uses the same ordering and is thus way faster. For the units it becomes a serious grind in the late game to make sure you moved all the units, especially because it always makes you start from the beginning. I would have reported this elsewhere, but the support website didn’t have an e-mail address, just FAQ‘s. If support reaches out, I can send you screenplay. It should be an easy fix and it’s a major inconvenience.

Developer Response ,

Please contact us using 'Email Support', found via 'Help and Support' in the Main Menu of the game. Please include a full description of the problem and we'll be happy to help.
