I’m in year 6 going into year 7 and for languages I’m going to be learning french. All my life the language I’ve learnt at school is Spanish and a little bit of German however no french whatsoever. I decided to try this language app and it was amazing! Despite always hating language lessons, this app has made me want to learn all the languages because it’s very fun. My seven year old cousin was watching me use this app and when I asked her opinion she said it looks really fun. All the other apps I tried cost money although this app was optional if you would use money. I’ve been using the free version. Moreover there is a version which costs money which is apparently better. All in all, if you or anyone you know wants to learn a language I recommend this app.😄😍😻

Has potential but surprisingly buggy

I tho k the app has potential. It’s maybe not the most effective way to learn a language and the lessons move quite slowly in terms of actual practical vocabulary, but when it works it’s fun and convenient which offsets that. The big problem is the number of bugs in the app. Frequently there are network error pop ups despite there being no network problems. These kick you out of your current exercise and it becomes a race to see if you can complete it before the pop up voids you’re progress. Similarly if you go out of an exercise and press continue, it can warn you that it will reset the progress (despite there being a separate button for that). Super frustrating. Also the voice recognition sometimes simply doesn’t work either complaining about problems with the microphone or responding differently to the same pronunciation. If the pronunciation is genuinely wrong, then there’s no hint at which part you’re getting wrong...sometimes I’ve stumbled through a sentence, massacring it entirely and got a pass. Sometimes got stuck on a single syllable which then worked fine in the next example. I want to persevere with it, but for the price tag on the course I expected UX of a higher quality.

Learning lots but annoying bits

Good app and I am learning lots. Many of ways of learning are really good. However, it flicks onto the next screen if you are ready or not. If you try to pause it doesn’t work most of the time. Often I have no idea what a word means, they introduce new ones without giving the English, only a picture, and a picture of ‘do’ isn’t exactly clear. Sometimes when you tap and hold it will come up with the English translation but most of the time it doesn’t, I just spend ages tapping on things and trying to get it to go back and pause and then it doesn’t translate anyway.
You never have to write anything. I will need to write stuff and it’s a good way of learning, even though you can cheat with spellcheck on your phone it’s still better than not doing it at all.
I think it would also be improved if it had optional in-depth bit. I understand the need to keep it interesting but I am really struggling to understand why and when they use so many different forms of I you he she they etc in the language I am studying (German). You need google as well as the ap.
I have actually started using Duolingo as well, which helps with most of these issues.
