Description

RunQuest 21k is a 13-week training program designed for 5k runners who want to run a half marathon. The workouts are distance-based, using GPS, and you get voice cues telling you your pace and progress every mile or km.

This is a program for runners comfortable running 5km (3.1 miles) at least 3 times per week or runners who have recently completed our Run 5k or Run 10k app.

FEATURES
• Includes Apple Watch app. Get your workout info without having to take your phone out of your pocket!
• Maps your run.
• Speaks pace and distance.
• Works in the background when you've switched to another app or if you've locked the screen.
• Calculates calories burned.
• Supports Bluetooth heart rate monitors.
• Includes animated stretching programs with voice cues.
• Integrates with the Health app and HealthKit.

WORKOUT PROGRAM
• Daily tips for your training program, including information about pacing and nutrition.
• Choose your start and end dates.
• Complete program where you run 4 times per week.
• Total of 12 miles (19km) to 21 miles (33km) per week.
• Works in miles or km.
• Tapers in the middle and end of the program.
• Automatically checks off each completed run.
• Checks off your run on the calendar.
• Option to manually enter treadmill, indoor, or other non-GPS runs.

HEALTHKIT
This app can be integrated with the Health app and be used with HealthKit. Your weight set in the Health app can be used to calculate Calories burned during a workout, and your date of birth and gender can be used to calculate your target and maximum heart rates. The total Active Calories burned can be saved to HealthKit after each workout. Sharing this information with HealthKit is optional.

GPS and LOCATION
This app requires an iPhone or iPad with GPS support. During a workout, location data is used to calculate distance and pace, and to record a track of your position on the map. For best results, use this app outside where you can see open sky. Note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Initially worked perfectly, but I’ve had to stop using

This app worked really well in the beginning, but as I progressed to longer runs I found it froze repeatedly, leaving me unsure of how far I’d actually run and incredibly frustrated! During an 18k, I had to close the app and re-open it several times to get it going again. As my half marathon draws closer, I’ve given up using this and have switched to Map My Run. I still use this app as a guide for when and how often I should run, but I just can’t trust it to work properly which is a real shame. I’m not sure if other users have been affected by glitches? I agree with another reviewer that the option to switch the days you do certain runs would be beneficial - expecting someone to run 18 or 19k after a day’s work isn’t realistic! If these glitches could be fixed; this app would be ideal.

Good, but requires support of other apps

I have just completed the first week of this programme in preparation for my first ever half marathon at the end of May. The build up of mileage is clearly laid out and seems achievable, even for someone like me who only started running 8 weeks ago! The daily tips are a nice feature and the warm up and cool down stretches useful, although the 'change legs' cue does not sound in some of the cool down.
The app would be better however if there was more flexibility with the calendar, for example if your race day isn't a Saturday and the ability to move weekly workouts to different days. I also have to use another tracking app on top of this one as the mileage cues don't sound when the screen is locked. That one tells you your time, distance and pace after every mile which really helps keep me going! Incidentally, a mile on this app seems to be longer than on the other app I'm using! I'm choosing to trust the other app, purely for an easier ride, here's hoping I don't regret it come race day!

Simple and Straightforward.. BUT

Really simple and straightforward app.. BUT. 1/ it's really flakey with BT hr monitors .. rarely does it work properly. 2/ it really doesn't store the data in the health app properly 3/ it shows up in the activity app, which Is good, but it doesn't calculate average HR.. so makes me less sure on the calorie calculation. 4/ for whatever reason the app has to be active, the screen on and the silent slider off to get the voice cues.. other than that😀
