A parents view.

At times (as a parent) trying to help our year 7 child (who has ADHD), we are finding the summary given by the teacher as to what is needed does not fully cover the task or is not explaining the attachments properly.
For example I am looking at some Spanish homework that states, see the attached, it should take 30 mins, we would like it handed in to class.
The attachment is a PDF that starts with question one, listen and tell us who is speaking? There is no playback facility on the homework for us to listen to. Consequently the brief description given by the teacher does not fit with the attachment!
I appreciate that the description of what is needed is supposed to act as ‘minutes’ for our child and that the homework would have been explained in class and that our child should bring that information home with them. But as a parent who also has access to this IT support facility who is not in class and if I don’t know what he is supposed to be doing. I cant help him to understand what he has been set.
This is not the first time that the description does not give full guidance to the attachment on SMHW and I am afraid that what should be a great support to both students and guardians is being cut short on its advantages by not giving full and proper descriptions of what is required to all.

Great for parents and students to keep track of homework.

I really like the app when used for day to day homework when my daughter was at school everyday. Now that we are using it for a lot more work whilst home learning due to the Covid19 outbreak there are a few issues which hamper our experience. To access the attachments for printing, we are having to use the internet version on a laptop, rather than the app. This is not as easy to navigate and less well organised when compared to the phone / iPad apps. Work which my daughter has marked as completed on the app or has commented upon or submitted attachments are still showing up as not submitted on the internet version. The other problem we have is that the student version, where my daughter can submit work, tick off tasks and comment is only on my daughters phone. We’d rather she didn’t have to rely on her phone when working from home. This also makes downloading work overly complicated as her phone won’t let her attach documents directly from OneDrive. Being able to log on / access the student version on multiple devices such as her iPad or on the computer would make life so much easier.

The reason I left 3 stars

I have to say this is a good app especially since it means my school bag is really heavy from all of the homework! Like many of the other reviews they are saying that the app is slow and that they get so much homework because your teacher can't see what homework you have and I can relate to that I get so much homework daily and I try to do it all and then I end up going to sleep at usually 2 or 3 in the morning and I know a lot of other students can relate to this, it's also really stressful because the notifications go off at 9pm and I go to bed a little earlier than that or a little later which means I have 5 minutes to do like 7 hours worth of homework and along with trying not to be late I'm always late for trying to Finnish up homework in the morning and when I get to school I get told off for being late and I try to explain but my teacher just says well it's your fault for forgetting and I'm like "what"?! So I would like you to make it so that when your teachers set your homework it's says the students in their class and then how much homework they have for that week and maybe try sorting out some issues with the app being slow, thank you very Much ~Lilith x🤗😀
