Description

Locate TV satellites in the sky with your iPhone or iPad.
SatFinder Lite is a tool for finding TV satellites and aligning satellite dishes.
SatFinder uses your phone sensors to detect your physical location and calculates azimuth and elevation your satellite antenna needs to face.

- Use Augmented Reality View to see and target satellites in the sky.
Use your camera for Augmented Reality View which shows satellite icons in places where they're positioned in the sky. It gives a realistic view to the sky and it helps to make sure there is a line of sight (LOS), i.e. no obstacles, such as tree branches or house tops, between the satellite dish and the satellite itself.

- Touch screen to take a screenshot of Augmented Reality view

Technically deficient

This is the free version and of course you would try this before lashing out real money on what is often euphemistically named the “Pro” version. I loaded the app on 2 iPads and an iPhone. The first attempt on an iPad gave erratic results with the desired satellite moving around the sky with respect to fixed objects like trees and buildings every time I retried it. So I loaded it on 3 devices to see if the iPad compass was shaky. All 3 gave varying results and like a man with two clockwork watches, you just don’t know what time it is. What really bothered me was that as I tilted the iPad or iPhone, standing still, the satellite (fixed in the sky) and any fixed object in view, like a tree, moved relative to each other, whereas clearly they should not if I was standing still and just raising me eyes. I suspect a bug or a crude approximation in the geometry software. I know this from years as a professor of physics where I got to know 3D coordinate geometry like the back of my hand. If this software had been presented to me by one of my PhD students, I would have gently told them to go away and fix the bug if they wanted a doctorate.

By all means use this free version to get a feel for what a decent app can do, but I advise you not to buy the Pro, till the free one works.

Excellent Sat Finder

As other reviews this a great app, easy to set up and use, so simple.
You can quickly see where your chosen sat is, and if anything is in the way, great for Motorhomes when deciding where to park.

A good simple app

Works well. Better than other free similar apps because you can select one single satellite to locate. One can spot its location clearly rather than selecting your satellite from a whole band of them across the sky
