Seek by iNaturalist 4+

When you think what this does, it’s amazing. From a photo, it identifies most plants, animals, fungi that you may come across. It sometimes has odd problems with examples that you think should be obvious, but generally extremely impressive - and useful. Really engaged the kids (9 & 11) - and me - in finding out what things are. A 45 minute hike took several hours as we found 42 species of fungus!
So far, I had good success in both UK and USA (New England), but Icelandic species (perhaps unsurprisingly) not so much. Sometimes the ID is a little temperamental and requires some patience : definitely easier with a better camera (iPhone XR rather than older) and in better light. If it quickly gets to 4/5 ‘dots’ of the 6 (for full id), it’s worth persisting. Avoid multiple species in shot (though it does seem to select the animal not the plant). If you snap the species shortly after the ID, even if it’s disappeared, it still registers. Would be nice to be able to answer a question or two to help it, or to select from a couple of possible suggestions. Options to offer feedback on the ID offered would be sensible.
Oddly, slime moulds register, but then don’t appear in “my observations”.
Overall, an amazing bit of software, completely free, and simple to use.

This app is fantastic and really helping my 2 young boys connect and understand nature. Have to take my phone with me now whenever we go on a walk as they want to try and identify things they’re not sure about.
There are a few things that would make it better and hopefully some extra features can get added over time.
A couple of suggestions to the developers,
1. Connect with friends on the app so you can compare your discoveries, compete on challenges etc..
2. The option to delete/cancel a new species. Occasionally you’ll find a new species that is definitely wrong but there is no way to undo it. Maybe add a “confirm new species” button before its added to your library

This is a wonderful App for observing and identifying the nature around us. I’ve learnt so much about plants, even things in my own garden. I also enjoy the challenges and feeling like I’m contributing to citizen science. There are 2 really obvious things to improve: (1) we need to be able to edit and/or delete observations that are incorrectly recorded. Occasionally the identifications are obviously completely wrong (e.g. some daisies identified as fungi) and it would be good to be able to remove those, asI hate the idea they are skewing data, and don’t like them just sitting there wrong in my observations lists! (2) We need the option to post to iNaturalist later on if wished. Often my internet connection is poor & I can’t post while out and about, but it would be nice to be able to do that at home when I’m back on WiFi - but the button is no longer there. Finally it would be nice to have a ‘Contact us’ button so I don’t have to post this very specific feedback in a review! Thanks for the App and I really hope you will consider these simple but important changes.
