SmartDrive MX2‪+‬ 4+

The integration between smartdrive and Apple watch is patchy at best. I can only travel about twenty yards before the Bluetooth signal drops out and I stop dead in my tracks. I was very enthusiastic to learn that it could be controlled with my Apple watch but I am now sorely disappointed. It isn't worth the effort.

Wow wow wow, I had the awful Tic Watch 2 to control my SmartDrive mmx2 and it just didn’t work so I had to revert to the old SmartDrive controller which worked but it just lacked that professional touch that Apple now gives. All I can say is Permobil took their time in creating an iOS app to control their Premium product mmx2 that it’s got to be a must for any owner of a SmartDrive rather than the dreaded “droid” which was truly shocking. When you install the SmartDrive watch directly from the Apple Watch (no iPhone needed) and pairing it to the mmx2 to seconds and worked within 30secs and continue to works effortlessly. Power levels are immediately seen and in a simplified screen makes it easy to understand and this is the correct amount of data you would need at this stage of pairing. After a while enough data is available so you can see how your SmartDrive is operating. No need for the included switches and the tap control system is more instant using the iOS app on a watch compared to the little black controller module that is sent with a SmartDrive. Thank you Permobil as this Premium wheelchair power drive now works on a premium phone system and all “Just Works”.

The sensitivity is unreliable so you never know if you'll be able to set your speed or stop it on cue. The smartdrive gets disconnected every ~30 seconds and you need to reconnect on the touch screen so no point wearing full fingered gloves on the other hand. The only good thing about being constantly disconnected is that when it doesn't respond to your taps to stop you can put your watch across your body and it'll probably disconnect and stop you that way. Also opening the settings usually crashes the app. The few times I've had to use the app because my pushtracker was dead have been so frustrating I ended up just turning it off to prevent me throwing the watch under a car.
