Social stories are an important type of visual support often used with children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other special need. This social stories found in this app use simple text and descriptive pictures to explain the why and how of different social skills.

Social interactions may be especially difficult for children with an autism spectrum disorder, adhd, or other social delay. Many children, especially those diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome and other special need, often fail to pick up on social cues, making learning a social skill especially difficult. Social stories may increase awareness and maintenance of social skills.

Social stories were first defined by Carol Gray in 1991 and are commonly used to break down a task or social situation into small and easy to understand steps, often accompanied by descriptive pictures. Social stories are incredibly easy to implement and are used by many professionals for a wide range of behaviors.

Useful tool

My son responds better to photos rather than cartoon type social stories, and this is very good for making simple but effective books for him. They are easy to print, so that he has them to look at whenever he wants.

Very useful

I have two children with ASD and I have found this app very useful for creating my own social stories. Some of the ready made stories are also good but I am reluctant to use them because of the American accent, it is more meaningful for children if the story is told in their own accent. However, the create your own function allows you to record your own voice so problem solved!
I like the fact that I can upload my own pictures into the stories, it would be great if you could have a collection of pictures on one page eg. Pictures of different friends, foods etc.
I have fully upgraded the app, at a very reasonable price, so that I can create an unlimited number of stories and if can also share with other devices- this is excellent as I can create on my own device and share onto my child's device. Thanks for a useful and useable app! It would be handy to include a short intro to social story structure, content and use of language.

Don’t bother. As soon as you open this app it immediately reveals you need to pay to print. Absolutely awful considering the targeted group for this app are children and people with special needs.
