When a local mast went down I lost my data and therefore internet access, crucial as I tether my laptop to my iPhone hotspot. Lack of communication from provider meant that the only way I knew I could participate in a specific meeting was to use Speedtest. It took a week before my service was resumed but daily checks using the reliability of Speedtest meant I was making informed decisions about rescheduling or travelling to find WiFi.

  • Great app but with a problem.

I’ve been using this app everyday for over a year now, as my hobby, hundreds of tests, all on my account, but it’s missing now, I’ve not deleted any of the data, and it’s really annoying me as this is my daily hobby, as I upload the data to an coverage site, doing tests today thinking it’ll save, only to go & try to export it, all missing, please fix the data as I need it for daily purposes.

  • Understand What You Are Testing

The app is a good tool but many people see it as testing your internet speed, this however is NOT what it does, so the Tag Line "keep your ISP honest" is far fetched. The app will test the speed it can download and upload at VIA WIRELESS. This is NOT you're internet connection speed. Your connection speed is what you are quoted when signing up to an ISP, wireless is not possible to quote as every device and every home is different, ISP's are not psychic's and cannot tell you what wireless speeds you will get as it's impossible to know. Also, it doesn't show you what file size it is down/uploading or indeed what "server" you're supposedly connecting to, nor does it show you how many people are currently running the very same test on the very same server and I'm sure you realise that the more people that are running these tests on that server, the slower the result will be. Considering this app is global, the servers are battered constantly with millions of people testing at all times, is there any wonder you get a different result every single time you run a test?! It's a gadget, not the truth!

  • Good. Quick. To the point.

Start with the complaints.visually it's a little stuck on adsl speeds on the visual front as pointed out by previous reviewer, however it does show the actual numbers, so something of an update for global scale speeds would be nice. The other thing is that it would be nice if the app was updated with logging in to the websites account so we could save speed data from all devices, which leads me to also say that it would be nice to get some sort of universal support for iPad.Apart from those niggles, I think there's no simpler speed test app or even webpage for that matter than ookla's effort. It gets the job done for free and no ads. Was able to determine issues with my routers wifi settings because of it. As for person who said it didn't show exactly what his computer was showing speed wise, it likely won't as the computer/laptop wifi receiver and iPhone/iPad won't be the same, and each generation of handset will be different to the last (iPhone 3GS picking up under 12mb whilst iPhone 4S around the max 30mb from my virgin bb).

  • Is there a problem with ios14 and Speedtest 4.2.7

Having used the app for many years, in the past few weeks I've noticed strange behaviour when using it to test Wi-fi speeds.Where previously speed readings were stable and consistent, now I find low and fluctuating download speeds on Wi-fi. For example, where I used to get a stable reading of say 400mbs download, now most of the time I get reading as low as 24mbs, or readings that fluctuate from 150 down to as low as 4 mbs during a single test. Occasionally, I can get a stable reading of 400mbs. This happens on an iPhone X with iOS 14.0.2 and Speedtest 4.2.7 and an iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd gen and an iPhone XR with the same software. However, when I test with an older iPad mini 4 with iOS 12.1 and Speedtest 4.2.4, or an original iPhone SE iOS 12.4.1 and Speedtest 4.0.2, I get stable readings of high downloads, 250mbs for the iPad mini 4 and 90 mbs for the iPhone SE.I have also tested with an iPad mini 5 with iOS 14 and Speedtest 4.2.7 and get the same fluctuating often very low download speed. Testing using a direct LAN connection on the same network gives high and stable speeds using an Apple MacBook. Is there a problem with 4.2.7 and ios14?

I’ve used your speed test app on various devices since you launched it. I do use it to challenge my service provider whenever they decide to steal some bandwidth that they think I won’t miss. This happens on a fairly regular basis. My router reports the capacity of the connection and I know my speeds are usually within 10% of that. Every now and again they try it on and bring the speed down 20% or more. I know this is the case no matter how much they deny it. The speed hits a very specific ceiling and maintains it throughout your app’s check. Thanks for a very useful tool. I have noticed rather a long delay in connecting to your various servers and wondered if that was a problem with my provider or are you having contention issues? It can take up to 20 seconds to start the test on occasion. Once it starts the test shows Nice short pings and consistent speeds but the delay is bugging me??
