Whether you are a student, teacher or parent, we all know the weekly spelling drill. Monday, we get our weekly words. Wednesday, we have our pre-quiz and Friday is the spelling test. Of course, during the week there are endless impromptu spelling quizzes, – at home, in the car, at dinner, before bed – you get the idea. Well, all that just changed – say hello to SpellBoard!

SpellBoard allows you to create any spelling quiz in any language. That's right, you could even use this for your Spanish class!

SpellBoard adds fun activities to your custom spelling lists. Including Word Search, Word Scramble, Alphabetize, Word/Sentence Matching, and Missing Letter puzzles.

SpellBoard provides a fast and intuitive way for you to enter your list of spelling words. All you need to do is enter the word (correctly spelled) and the grade level. SpellBoard will take it from there using iOS's built in speech technology* to quiz you on the words (if desired/needed you can record audio in your own voice as well). Optionally, you can enter a phrase for the word, an image, antonyms and/or synonyms and notes for the word. That's it! Now you are ready to study your words and be quizzed on them.

SpellBoard also adds fun activities to your custom spelling lists. Including Word Search, Word Scramble, Alphabetization, Word/Sentence Matching as well as Missing Letter puzzles.

And possibly best of all, you can share your quizzes with other SpellBoard users, that means only one person needs to enter the weeks spelling words and then share it with other SpellBoard, SpellBoard Buddy, or even SpellBoard Mac users.

Additionally, SpellBoard allows for multiple student profiles so you can track the performance of any student  across any number of quizzes. You can also track how well multiple students perform against a particular quiz.

SpellBoard also has a study mode where you can walk through a quiz seeing and hearing the word and phrase. You can practice writing the word on the virtual white board or connect to Wordnik to get a definition for the word.

Give yourself the added advantage, add SpellBoard to your learning toolbox.

• SpellBoard supports iCloud Syncing, the Apple Pencil and iOS Split View.

Almost perfect!

Let me start of by saying that I am in now say affiliated with the developers.

I have been using mathboard with my children since release and it was just what I wanted.

When I saw Spellboard, i couldn't believe my luck, as again, it was just what I wanted - spelling lists which speak the word and also use the word in a sentence so the child knows the context too.

Being british, I was a little disappointed in the provided audio in the Palaware spelling lists, and the audio quality wasn't that great too, but there's a nifty feature which lets you create your OWN spelling lists and record your OWN voice!!! how neat is that? And you can also share those custom spelling lists with others.

I must commend the developers wholeheartedly for their efforts.

The ONLY niggles I have is that there is a lag between letters when the child writes out in the word in the whiteboard area - but I'm confident this will be fixed, making it a 5 star app.

If you want your child to spell on the go using their iPad - THIS IS A MUST HAVE APP.

Not that good

My son has a spelling test every week and I thought this app would help but actually I think it hinders him instead. He has to enter the answers by typing the letters into the keyboard, not by writing on the whiteboard which I would've thought might have been an option - even if its just me marking it, instead of the ipad having to convert my son's scrawl to text and mark it (and maybe get it wrong!) It also changes the order of the spellings and alphabetises them instead of leaving them in the order I entered them. Not helpful as the teacher will not alphabetise the test in class! She also does not randomise them although I appreciate some students would find it helpful - maybe if they are older.
My friend recommended this to me but I was dubious as to whether i should leave it my son to do it the old fashioned way with a pencil and paper and I wish I had.
All in all, it's an ok app, it could be much better if they were to make it user friendly for young children rather than adults. Certainly not worth 2.99.

Great engagement

I saw this as a link from the maths buddy app, and could see from the screenshots that it looked *very* promising. A superb app for creating and monitoring how children progress on weekly spellings. The ability to record the word as well as add and record a contextual phrase is brilliant.

Although I am a bit miffed at paying paying extra for the buddy app for her to practise on my ipod, this ability to share quizzes over devices (with files, email or bluetooth) is an extremely useful addition. Now I can do this as a weekly task on my iPad and she can work through it at her own pace.
