Ratings and Reviews
A disappointing and unreliable app
I use the stagecoach app for buses in south east Kent. Remarkably, the reliability of the app is significantly poorer than the live data provided by google maps. How does google know where a stagecoach bus is better than stagecoach? I’m honestly baffled!
For the past couple of times I’ve tried to use the app, I’ve received errors. Today I got an email saying I have to update the app within the coming days if using an iPhone. So I navigate to the App Store, only to find no update available.
Apps are part of everyday business for companies. The fact that Stagecoach hold monopolies in areas shouldn’t be reason for failing to invest in new technologies, and I hope that in contract renewals and negotiations, local councils take note of the huge number of 1* reviews for Stagecoach app. Buses for many provide a crucial link to the world, and there are communities really relying on buses, but these people are left in the dark (and literally, the cold and rain) if they try to use the Stagecoach app to tell them where and when they can catch their bus.

It’s great, but...
I use this app to buy mobile tickets all the time as I have autism and don’t like to have to buy tickets on the bus. I have been using the app for about a year making over a hundred bus journeys, and it’s great and has live bus times feature which is very helpful.
Just recently however, as I boarded the bus I pressed “Show ticket to driver” and a spinning cog came up briefly, and then my phone went completely black as if it was restarting, luckily the bus driver wasn’t fussy and let me on anyway, I tried turning on my phone and it was as if the phone had died even though it was fully charged, I tried holding down the power button and all sorts (I am using an iPhone X) but it refused to come back on, after 8 minutes it came back on by itself, showing the apple logo, and then prompting me to enter my password as usual, I entered it and it took me back to the stagecoach app, which was restarting, what I’m essentially trying to say is the app somehow killed my phone briefly, which if the driver wouldn’t let me on, I would have been stuck there.

Always been fine...but
Always been fine to buy my weekly tram pass over the past year, so I can show it on my phone.
Today, for some reason, the app said this morning there was a problem connecting to Stagecoach. By teatime, my account is empty. None of the previous history of weekly tickets. Even worse, I bought a £14 weekly ticket yesterday and that’s disappeared. So, I’ve had to buy a day rider today for a journey I’ve already paid for.
I’ve no idea why the app has wiped everything like that, but all I know is until it comes back, it’s cost me a weeks worth of money for just one day 😡
I’m waiting for a response from Stagecoach, but that won’t be til tomorrow, by which time I will have had to buy another dayrider ticket out of my limited budget 😡
Update: still no nearer to finding out why my account has been orphaned and still no refund of my weekly pass that I only used 1.5 days before the app lost it. I kept buying day riders each day that week, hoping my ticket would reappear on the app but it never did. I ended up paying more than double what I should have.
So I now pay cash on the tram and if I don’t have the right change, that’s not my problem. I tried to help Stagecoach by sorting my ticket before boarding, and they help me by losing my ticket through a fault in their system, orphaning my account, and avoiding refunding me. I will NEVER use this app again.
