Friendly competition with a like-minded sporting community is a big part of Strava's appeal. More than just a GPS, Strava shares your rides and runs automatically, so it's really low maintenance. See your rank on your favourite segment, join distance challenges, and follow your friends, pros and even foes. As they say, "If it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen".

Room for improvements

I think Strava is brilliant and has evolved significantly over the years. However, I would like to see a section in the ‘statistics’ part of the app that shows your historical PB’s for running & cycling. This would save having to go back through previous activities trying to find out what your 2 mile PB is for example. I would also far rather see advertisements in the app than having to pay for premium content (which I think is hugely over priced unless your a semi professional athlete). I think another great idea could training programs, for example, I choose a generic aim in which I want to achieve let’s say increasing pace. Then Strava tells me that across 5 running days per week day 1 run x miles at x pace then day 2 run x at x etc. I think this would influence more time spent on the app which would improve sales pitch to companies if you went down the advertising route. Definitely change the historical PB thing tho . Thanks

Great App with a couple of niggles

Firstly I think the app is brilliant and really adds to the enjoyment of cycling by adding the extra competitive element of segments etc but to me there are two issues which bug me a lot and I’m sure others too. 1. For those of us who are really competitive and want to really test ourselves against like minded cyclists I feel the age groups particularly once over 50 should be split into 5 year segments rather than 10 years that’s an awful lot of difference in years especially once you start hitting over 55 or 60 as in my case it would better reflect that difference. 2. And again particularly in relation to older age classification (but I guess could apply to any age classification), I really feel if the app is going to fair to all riders there should be a suffix that denotes when a rider has achieved a top spot in an age category or a trophy in a segment is part of a group activity i.e sat in a chain gang/ peloton in particular in the age category section when that rider beats or is number 1 on a segment, as opposed to when a rider has achieved that previous best time by a solo effort. It’s very frustrating when that happens but at least if it is shown with a ( g) group ride as a suffix it at least adds a degree of recognition and fairness to the rider who has put in that extra unaided effort and achieved that top spot under their own steam independently. I don’t think it would be that difficult to add that extra feature. Thanks Al
