It’s alright, BUT.
This is a decent sequel/prequel to Summoner’s War, however there are multiple issues that hinder the game.
1. The fact that you are REQUIRED to do the ranked battles and obtain a high enough rank to continue on with the campaign. This in itself is the main problem with the game as not everybody is big on the PvP or need more time to get used to it. Other features are locked behind earlier rankings which is perfectly fine as they’re easily obtainable, but why do I HAVE to grind the PvP for 3 stages of story that give mediocre rewards?
2. The chat system is a bit on the bad end currently (no clue if it’s an iOS bug or if it’s just for everyone). Basically when you type in chat and somebody sends a message before you type yours the message you’ve typed out gets instantly deleted, it’s just annoying.
3. The tutorial doesn’t really educate a new player that much, it teaches you about abilities, counters, the elemental triangle and that’s about it. It doesn’t teach you about the various buffs/debuffs, effective team compositions and so on, if you’re going to make a heavy PvP focused game, at least be sure to tell the players everything.
I will however give credit where credit is due, the monster redesigns are really good, except for Shannon and Colleen. Shannon basically got downgraded and Colleen just looks weird, maybe it’s the legs I dunno.
Overall, game has potential but the whole “grind PvP to progress the game” thing isn’t a healthy system.
Please make some changes
This new summoners war version is really addictive and with all the new ways to interfere with the game play it’s got potential to be something great BUT having to pay extremely high prices of in game packs to compete with others isn’t going to make this game get the players you want along with terrible ways to get runes and the material to upgrade them don’t get me wrong it’s very early to post a comment like this but you really need a change how to require certain things in game!
Overall it’s addictive coming up with different teams just needs more PVE content better ways to obtain runes and power up materials
Good gameplay, awful monetisation…
The gameplay itself is very strategic and I’m enjoying my time with the game. The monetisation however is incredibly greedy, even among its peers.
Not only are there 4x £50 bundles on offer to me currently (you get a new one for each legendary character you draw) these bundles offer very little ‘garunteed’ value.
Each of the these bundles offers 1x copy of the legendary character (you need a lot of them to level up) and a bunch of gems for random draws.
Do you need to pay to play? No.
But when you consider the game is built around PvP the issues become obvious.
Even stages of the PvE campaign are locked behind your PvP rank.
Had the monetisation been built around cosmetics or the option to just outright purchase characters of your choosing I would happily pay to support the game/developers.
Just not the price of a new triple A PC game for a single character! That’s the definition of insanity…
Perhaps I’m just not the target audience? Fair enough.
But I imagine these games only thrive with an incredibly large player base, and I don’t see people playing for years just to reach an equal playing field with those who pay a couple of thousand pounds to get there with zero effort.
If the game wasn’t fun I wouldn’t waste my time writing this review. Just approach with caution…
