Superbrothers:Sword&SworceryEP 12+

I only stumbled on this in the app store because the little thumbnail looked a bit different to everything else. I can imagine it being boring for people who want lots of impulsive speedy action.. things about it are a bit repetitive, very simple and quiet; so it's best for people who like things to be interesting - it's really about the atmosphere, humour, and playful design.. and postmodernism! What was so nice about old games with characters vaguely constructued out of blocky little pixels is they had a totally different, kind of mysterious character compared to the hypereal stuff around today; it was kind of nicer, and more otherworldy, and this game makes the most of that. Along with the really nicely crafted music and sounds it's just a pleasure.

There's a charming Twin Peaks reference and definitely a musical nod to Philip Glass near the end. And the mythic structure of it has a nice weight as well. It even has some hints at the more alternative side of semi-psychedelic philosophies.. e.g. 'archetype', lucid dreaming, the unknown. If you're interested in all that stuff then enjoyment of this whole experience is definitely amplified.

What a lovely game! It's so pretty and the soundtrack-OH MY GOODNESS! This is totally worth a buy!

Found this really disappointing. Gameplay was clunky and very difficult on a mac. The storyline and challenges were very dull, most of the first level was just relentlessly moving from screen to screen rather than solving any actual chalenges. There was no guidance at the start of the game on how to even move so had to spend a long time sifing through walkthroughs on the internet to find out. I’m stuck on the sprite sheep level right at the start, I don’t know if it’s a bug or not but it won’t let me progress and to be honest I’m not interested enough to keep trying. A real waste of money.
