T-Mobile Prepaid eSIM 4+

Highly recommended. I just returned to the UK after a month back home in the States. I didn’t want to rely on slow O2-UK roaming speeds for data while abroad so I signed up for T-Mobile’s $35 12gb plan. I did this a couple days before my flight and had service from the instant I switched on my phone upon landing. Their 5G ultra capacity speeds were amazing - way faster than the 5G speeds I seem to get on O2 in the UK. No complaints about the process or the service. A word of caution for those who don’t opt for unlimited data - be sure to change your iPhone’s mobile/cellular data mode settings to ‘Low Data’ so you aren’t doing background updates on cellular data. I was slow to do this and found I’d already used 5gb in a week. You can easily check your data consumption by dialling #932# (#WEB#) and this will tell you instantly how much data you’ve used.

Worked like a dream. Would like to keep the number beyond 30 days. Added $10 in t-mobile shop and was told that would fix the issue. Not convinced but will find out in 10 days.

As a service offering, this is great. It allows you to get a full US eSIM including a US phone number, which is required by quite a few companies and services in America. Most eSIMs are data only so you need to rely on your existing non-US number.

That said, the app needs a bit of work to make the experience smoother.

1) The payment and contact fields don’t have autofill, and if you switch apps to get your card details or let your phone lock whilst you find a physical card, the app will restart and you have to enter all the details again. Apple pay would also make life a lot easier.

2) Managing your balance has to be done online, and it can be surprisingly tricky to get registered correctly to do this - especially if you aren’t in the USA at the time and need to receive a text message to verify. Would be great if the app had a login where you could manage and top-up SIMs

3) In a similar vein to 2) it’s not that simple to get information on an existing plan. Would be good if the app had your number, remaining balance etc.
