One of the best in china
I think that this app is really good I use it all the time but I can’t buy anything because I don’t have Alipay and that’s hard for me because then there’s no way I can use the app to it’s full potential but if they added a way that you can also pay with WeChat 微信 then it would be the best online shopping app in china
Discrimination against anyone who isn't mainland Chinese
This app/company discriminates against anyone that doesn't have a mainland China ID card. They prevent you from paying for all imported products listed as “全球购” and 天猫国际” if your Alipay or other payment method is not verified with a mainland China ID card. Even if your Alipay is fully verified with a passport, it doesn't allow foreigners and HK/Macau citizens to buy imported products tagged with those things.
This has become a lot worse recently. Previously, they only restricted foreigners from buying "天猫国际” products which is a small fraction of their sellers. However, in the last few weeks they have introduced a new tag “全球购” which covers all imported products sold by reliable sellers that have been around for more than just a few days. This is probably 95% of all imported products.
In short, if you're a foreigner that works legally in China, from HK or Macau, you cannot buy imported products from trustworthy sellers. Therefore, my only recommendation is to boycott Taobao and Alipay until they stop this disgusting discrimination.
Changed itself to Chinese and now stuck!
I downloaded the app. Set to english. Made many purchases. Then inexplicably the app turned itself to Chinese and the english language button has disappeared. This has made communication with sellers very difficult!!
Google translate lets me know the sentence (where the english language button should be) is telling me to be patient while it upgrades….. well I’m out of patience after 3 weeks of waiting, deleting app and reinstalling etc.
I even went to the new TaoBao store here in Hong Kong for help, but the staff were baffled. Apparently I’m not the only person experiencing this. Clearly there was not enough testing before releasing the english version app 🙄
