TCB | Read Chinese to Learn 4+

Extensive reading is a great way to improve Chinese skills. The vocabulary list and grammar points at the end are very helpful. I also like the audio play tool to listen back either before or after reading.

You can tap on a word to see the pinyin and translation but it’s not a good idea to do it too often as it can become a crutch that will weaken instead of strengthening your reading skill.

You can also have the pinyin between the lines of text but I don’t choose that as I find it distracting and I want to build my character reading skill.

My Chinese teacher would use news stories in some of her classes. That was a great relief from the textbook but there were just too many new words and characters, sometimes a whole sentence was basically incomprehensible and the class became a hard slog. Those lessons would have been way better had she used this app!

Overall a great practice tool with interesting stories to motivate you to do some reading. The fact that the pieces are quite short helps as you can read a whole story in a few spare minutes or as part of a class.

This is the only application and website which actually exploits the selected input texts (always accurately graded using the HSK scale
) in a systematic and intensive way. In language learning practice does make perfect, and this application provides a large number of practice exercises in both listening and reading, which really help and improve learning. There is always a regular source of new newspaper articles and other inputs. You can also choose a number of criteria to locate the texts you want. Highly recommended.

This app is amazing. I am a high school student and I love to read the news, learn Chinese and integrate with the culture. I have a more expanded vocabulary and in lessons I can use extended words. There should be a option to read all the text in English as it is hard to understand what the sentence means in terms of rejigging the sentence using the sentence structure.
