I think the search function works pretty well, but the customer journey is odd in terms of when you are prompted to reserve a slot before you’ve filled your basket.
There are bounce outs when you want to change from Delivery to Click and Collect, and you are forced to ‘try’ click and collect to move to the next step.
The app does seem a bit ‘buggy’ and my first experience resulted in waiting in for a delivery slot, only to be told 10 minutes into the hour that the ‘order has been cancelled due to a technical fault’... the messaging around when you can reorder is confusing (and you can’t select the ‘cancelled’ order to reorder automatically)... a £10 voucher discount was given, which is a bonus, but it doesn’t build too much confidence that your ordered items will be fulfilled on time if you are relying on items to a deadline.
There is a disappointing gap between what you can do on ‘my account’ in the app versus having to log in to the main site (e.g. to manage addresses) and even when you do that, there is a lost link if you leave my account to look at club card... you can’t get back directly to where you left my account (and I cannot see for certain that my club card details are linked properly to my grocery account.
The app could benefit from some thoughtful reviews of the entire customer journey from browse to purchase through to reliable fulfilment.
Online shopping during corona!
This is only my second click and collect order. Collected my first order 2 weeks ago. So organised, very impressive. Courteous, helpful staff, felt safe. Order was correct. Food items fresh and well in date, and all neatly and thoughtfully packed. Stated to family think I’ll continue click and collect in future.
Little difficult to get slot but I would expect it to be during this period, which forced me to use Asda on 2 occasions. You have nothing to worry about regarding competition. Total disaster both times.
Booked delivery slot, returned to amend, to be informed no slot saved, despite having email confirming same. On day got phone all saying not collected order! Veg use by next day! Fresh asparagus substituted for baked beans! No bread of any type, when I insisted on getting veg changed, said not allowed, had to push. Asked what problem was with my orders confirmation and why no receipt, was told I’d put email down incorrectly. They had previously emailed me slot confirmation and I use finger recognition to log in to account.
Still no receipt.. or email so no idea what they reckon I’d ordered as lots of items not on my order included.. and lots missing.
Asda shambles-Tesco fab!
Intuitive and informative
Of all the online shopping apps, this one wins for me. It’s easy to use and clear to see the items/menus/trolley etc. It is also fantastic that all allergens are listed as we have young family members who really need this. What’s more, you can type in eg. ‘Cereal’ and refine the search by lifestyle/dirty requirements. So we can check the ‘no gluten’ box and get items ideal for our young Coeliac! You can now click on a photo and zoom in for more detail. You can create a ‘usuals’ shopping basket to mass load into your trolley which saves so much time. The only slight cons (which don’t even reduce the rating by one star) is that if you try to delete items off your usuals list, it can take several seconds for the change to take effect. This is fine if it’s just one or two items, but if you’re having a mass cull of items, it’s an infuriatingly long process. It would be good to have an ‘edit’ function where you can highlight all items you don’t want anymore then delete them in one click en masse. Other than that, this app is so much more intuitive and informative than all over online grocery apps I’ve come across.
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
