Mixed bag

Came to this app from Ariva one when Arriva lost franchise to Transport for Wales. It had some clear pros over old app that required you to buy a ticket at least 10 mins before leaving so if you hit station with 9 mins to wait you had to book while walking and if train was late the old app would not let you book unless 10 mins before schedule departure time so if 30 mins delayed you had to book 40 mins before train. TFW does not do this so clearly better.

However, every time you book a ticket you get e-Mail receipt which for daily commute can be drag. Also you need internet to access ticket and with Shrewsbury Station ticket barrier a black spot for Three it meant you had to go back up
Stairs and keep ticket on screen or out building and do same depending on if entering or leaving. My new operator Tesco Mobile (O2 signal) is fine so not universal problem but heard off friends Vodafone has same issue so if two out of the four providers do not offer signal and with some on others on silly low data caps it could be and would be solved by letting app show downloaded tickets without data.

Still two issues only not too bad just keep working on it guys.

Good but can improve

Would be helpful if it the view did not reset I.e. if I buy a ticket, the next time I’m gonna use the app is to visualise that ticket, so leave the screen as left, instead of default page which then requires a few taps and scrolls (worsened by the other annoyance described below)

Keeping the whole list of “active tickets” is untidy. I guess mine are ‘active’ as I buy open returns but they remain ‘active’ despite having been used, so always have to scroll down and find the latest one.

Other than that. Great app. Nearest station works well, remembers favourites.

Would be brilliant if it linked up with the TfW alerts for my favourite journeys I.e. get notifications on the app and at the time of purchase for any disruption.

Wi-fi absence on trains

The app is satisfactory but when the train’s wi-fi is down the app cannot display the ticket. An understanding Conductor accepted the e-mail confirming my purchase of the ticket instead. The ticket did not show for some 15 minutes by which time my journey ended. Not a good app when a train is in an area, rural in this case, where the wi-fi is down. I shall be selective in future between a paper ticket and an e-ticket. So much for saving paper! The Conductor commented that I could have been required to pay again if I couldn’t show my e-ticket. This is grossly unfair when it was TfW’s dropped wi-fi which was the cause. A licence to print money!
