Needs Updating ASAP

I am only using this app as I’ve been asked to use it by my housing provider as we have a neighbour who is causing noise disturbances on a daily basis. The best thing about it is that my recordings go straight to my housing provider & I have a log I can refer to. The app
Is good as it is very sensitive and it can pick up my (quiet) breathing and the ticking of my clock in the background. Is say the worst thing about it is that you have to keep your finger on the record button which is a total pain. It makes using it very inconvenient an not practical. It would make everything so much easier if you can start and stop the recording without having to continually keep your finger on the record button which is incredibly taxing & due to this I’ve missed vital noise disturbances I needed to record as evidence! In our situation we are trying to record noise that is not continuous & instead short & intermittent - such as very loud door slamming & sudden loud bangs & thumps which are sometimes difficult to predict and therefore record. If there was also the option to record for longer it would make the app far easier for many I’m sure. Not all anti-social noise is continuous like music or drilling. I have had to try to pre-empt the noise & have the app open & be able available to record, keeping my finger on the record button, so not the most practical app in several ways.

App getting better, still a long way to go though.

I’ve been using the app for a couple of years, there have been many glitches and hiccups along the way, but it’s getting better as the the app is updated. It would be good if we can have longer than 30 seconds to record? and a simple change to the record button where you press record and you don’t have to keep your finger on it to record, and to stop recording you then press the record button again? that would be so much simpler than the current annoying hold the record button to record all the time. Another good thing would be if we could save each recording to our devices after sending to the local councils, so we can keep each recording for our own records? In all I would recommend the app, but it still has a long way to go to make it perfect for those of us who suffer ASB.

Developer Response ,

Hi, thank you for your review, we really appreciate all feedback. So we did some research with the length of the recording and it was determined that 30 seconds would be sufficient as you can submit multiple 30-second recordings. We are looking at ways to improve the process of recording, to perhaps allow tap to begin and tap to stop. This is being looked at for future development. So when you register to the app, the terms of service state that the recordings are not stored on the device and this is done to ensure they are safely and securely captured. If you wish to have access to the recordings, you can contact your housing provider who can provide them to you. Many thanks, Sophie.

I downloaded the app on advice of my housing association and local council to prove the excessive noise pollution my son and I have been subjected to for nearly a year (without resolution despite multiple complaints). There is excessive static noise in the background of recordings, so it doesn't always pick up noise despite it being loud enough to hear from neighbours (and I'm deaf in one ear). It has in other cases picked up music and TV noise throughout my flat from next door (I might add next door is actually an adjoining building) when it is extremely loud. Problem is that whilst the housing association accept the noise is excessive, local council refuse to accept 42 recordings stating they don't 'percieve' the noise as excessive as they apparently can barely hear the recordings due to background static etc. Interesting when I can and housing association can (who now won't do anything as the council are refusing to act). Unfortunately once you've sent off the file you have no record of it for yourself to access and listen to. Totally frustrated. Had hoped this would help resolve the issue as it's affecting health. Don't understand why councils and housing associations are recommending the app when they then won't use the evidence generated. App let down by significant background static type noise.
