Awesome game, but be warned...
This game is a cut above most other maths apps. It’s entertaining enough to rival some of the most addictive non-educational games out there. It takes the player on an immersive adventure with excellent graphics and voice acting. The game element is very engaging, where the player designs their own town and defends it against bad guys. You couldn’t ask for better motivation for your child to learn their times tables.
But here’s the first warning. For my 7 year old the “intelligent” assessment system was not so intelligent. After he completed every times table quiz just once (using mental arithmetic, as he had not memorised them all) the game decided he must be some kind of super-genius and replaced the tables with maths questions more appropriate for kids several years above him in school. His “grade” kept dropping and his town was destroyed. He was very upset and didn’t want to play the game any more. If you are aware of this potential issue it needn’t be a problem though. You just need to tell your child not to complete the final, 12x table quiz and they can continue to enjoy the game while they rehearse the other tables for as long as they like.
The second warning is that the game isn’t actually free. You get 3 days for free, then it’s £1.99 per 10 days or £7.99 for unlimited play. Now you know.
So, highly recommended, but be aware of the cost and think twice before letting your child complete all the times table challenges!
Fabulous game, fantastic ideas and my son loves it. It is not free as advertised. It locks you out after a day, and forces you to buy "keys" to access the programme. None of this is advertised clearly in the App Store. If this game has indeed won such an award why would you trick parents and children by advertising it as free when it is clearly not? Would be happy to pay up front, or the "keys" if this was clear in the description. I understand a lot of work has been put into the development of this and would love to support it but this is just false advertising.
Keys or unlimited access
After a day or two, you will be asked to pay for keys or unlimited access ( about £8! ).
As the other reviewers say, the animation with good story, songs, the games are great and all works harmoniously together so my son got engaged with the app including the multiplication game. However, this is only until you clear all the stages of the times table which my son did within a week.
Once you clear all the stages, there is no new story which means far less attractive to do the multiplication games so my son quickly lost interest on the whole thing. Well, it was a mistake for us to pay £8 on this.
I recommend to buy the keys if anyone wants to continue.
