Anyone who’s booked train tickets in the UK knows it can be a labyrinthine task. Am I buying off-peak tickets? What is off-peak? What is “super” off-peak? Am I getting the best deal? We were thrilled to have all this—and more—finally made clear as day by a souped-up Trainline app. It’s become as essential to our train travel as a fully charged phone battery.

(Almost) always excellent

Really disappointing that you can no longer see the last trains that have departed... it was an essential feature to check whether the train was running (and look back to see if other trains have been cancelled, that yours might be). I’ve used trainline for years but this isn’t good enough and I hope they add the functionality back.

UPDATE: Thanks for the response , really pleased to see this has come back and I’ve updated my review :)! I think a push notification/email would have been helpful in this instance as it seems I wasn’t the only customer confused by its sudden disappearance!

Developer Response ,

The check earlier trains function hasn't been removed from our app, but we’ve identified an issue that’s keeping it from working as usual. We’re sorry for any mix-up with this, though our team are working on the problem and we'd expect this to eb back up and running soon. - Andy

Very useful, but not as good as it used to be

The main functionality of the app for downloading and displaying tickets works fine.

There are some “buts” and I’d appreciate feedback on these.
1) new and unused tickets should appear at the top of the list of tickets. Instead I have to scroll down past tickets that are used but not yet expired to reach my latest purchases. Expired tickets are at the bottom of the list.

2) the app used to provide real time train information for your reserved journey within the app which was really useful. Why was that taken away?

3) e-tickets are less flexible than paper ones when it should be the other way around. A full fare paper ticket that hasn’t yet been collected can be readily cancelled and yet an e-ticket that hasn’t yet been downloaded is more difficult. With distribution being more controlled, eTickets should be made more flexible rather than less.

4) seat reservations are only visible at the top level screen for a ticket. Being able to access them through the View Tickets screen would be more intuitive, especially given that the text section starts with Itinerary Details but still doesn’t give the most important detail about the itinerary.
