Ratings and Reviews
Just the Ticket
Episode three is finally upon us which makes for a perfect excuse to review this wonderful puzzle fighter.
If you’ve ever played Puzzle Quest or Henry Hatsworth, then you’ll be perfectly at home here - while also somewhere delightfully beyond both of these brilliant games.
Guide your central characters across a coloured board that powers up one of four different types of special abilities, and then use this stored energy to unleash special attacks or healing abilities. Enemies thwart your intentions with annoying handicaps to play, while extra resources are there for the taking if you can complete an encounter within specified limitations. All of which results in some ponderous action, but that thinking time is perfectly countered by a continually upbeat soundtrack from the award winning folks at s:amplify.
Elsewhere in this deceptively deep game you’ll find engaging customisations to tinker with. Here, between engagements, you can purchase weapons and craft upgrades for them, as well as spend points on specialising your character's abilities. And it's with these central personalities that you'll find yet another well-crafted aspect of Ticket to Earth. While the cartoon animations are basic, the interactions between your team and the antagonists they face are far from one dimensional.
There really is so much enjoyment on offer here for the asking price, so go and download the “Meltdown” update now and get involved in perplexing yet marvellous game.
Interesting game with good learning curve
Currently most of the way through episode 2. Picked up the game before a long day travelling. Had a lot of fun, the game easily got me through a frustrating train journey, and was gripping enough that I’ve carried on playing once I got to my destination. Both the gameplay and storyline have enough going on to keep me going. The lack of in-app purchases and the developers releasing all the episodes as one perfectly reasonably priced package are very welcome too. It is a nice blend of ‘connect the squares’ puzzle game and light tactical RPG that plays very well on iPad Air2.
This game is brilliant. The story, the gameplay, the strategy and the artwork are all outstanding.
There is luck involved in the game, but when things change you can adapt your strategy and even use the powers to alter the tiles on the board. I disagree with reviews saying it’s too dependant on luck. In fact I find it refreshing that the game works in a different way to many other turned based strategies.
I highly recommend this. It is parallel to games like Banner saga and Fire Emblem. But it’s completely awesome in its own way!
