Lochend chalets and Nick Nairns restaurant and Julia Nairn ‘Home’ shop
This is now our second year of visiting this venue. The chalets are lovely, super cosy and have everything you need, especially in the kitchen including a washer/tumble dryer. We can see the lake from dining area and have an abundance of ducks, pheasants and little birds including a red breasted nuthatch that visit most days. The shower is super hot and supplied with soft white towels. It is the most tranquil place I have ever stayed. We are surrounded by woodland and life slows down here. The staff are very helpful, friendly and there if you need them. Of course we could not stay here and not go to the on site restaurant, but do book to avoid disappointment. We shared the baked Camembert as a starter, it was fabulous and then we had pizza with a thin crispy base along with a lovely bottle of wine. As someone who is always in the kitchen at home I can never resist going into Julia’s shop, I actually didn’t buy for the kitchen but a knitted hat for me but there is always something to tempt you. It’s probably about 30 minutes by car into Stirling and 20 minutes into Callender where there is a wide river with a seated area and a decent car park. A good selection of shops and cafes and a wonderful bakery line the main road. We stayed for a week and it’s never long enough so we are returning next year. Thank you for your hospitality. Nile Cruise on The Emilio
Just been on a bucket list trip to Egypt, starting with a 7 night Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan and back , visiting the Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings. , Colossus of Memnon , Edfu , Kombo Ombo , Philae Temple , Karnak Temple etc . The trip was amazing . We went out in a group of 10 each day with a very knowledgeable Egyptologist who spoke wonderful English . Most days we were up at 5.30 to get out on trips before the heat set in , but it was so worth it to see these fantastic ancient sites . Sailing the Nile is Beautiful, as you see the verdant landscape , backed by sandstone hills, beyond that, desert. Also fascinating watching locals going about their day to day chores and having fun . Certainly an experience I am so glad to have undertaken . Egypt is a beautiful place , with lovely people . Reminded me of India with the poverty & riches that exist side by side , messy & roads of organised chaos! Market vendors and street sellers happy to make a buck or two , so plenty of bartering 🤣 I must say at all the sites we visited and restaurants I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the public facilities, not once did we encounter any bad ones , and having read some reviews was prepared for the worst. Thank you Egypt you were all I dreamt you would be and more .
Fabulous Flamenco
We really had a unique fabulous evening with Maria and have told so many people about it! We met her outside Santander bank( there are 2 banks in the same street and Google maps took us to the wrong one) and then went to a bar for a drink and tapas. She spoke perfect English and told us all about flamenco. And then onto the show! It was a much smaller theatre than I had imagined. Probably 40-50 people sitting around the stage. We sat in the front row , literally 15 cm from their feet! There was a singer, a guitarist and 2 dancers. And honestly we were both completely absorbed for the whole hour. The dancing was incredible, so loud and such complicated steps. They were dripping with sweat. It was a very intimate, emotional experience which sounds a bit odd, but it really was! Afterwards María took us to some more bars and we had more tapas and drinks. We finally ended up in a bar where she sometimes dances and did that night as well! Such fun! She then helped us find a taxi to get home. Thank you Maria for such a great evening.
It was just my husband and myself on this tour, so we were lucky. But even if there was a bigger group it would be fine.
