Try Dry® is the powerful, easy-to-use, and totally free premium app helping tens of thousands of people to take control of their drinking. Try Dry® is the official app of the Dry January® challenge, which was created and is run by the charity Alcohol Change UK.

Co-created with drinkers and based on behavioural science and a spirit of experimenting (hence the name), Try Dry® contains unique features such as 'planned drinking', custom goals, and special missions. Unlike 'sobriety-only apps', it works brilliantly whether you want to cut back or try being sober.

Whether you’re taking on the Dry January® challenge, doing Sober Spring, trying a sober October, making a longer-term change to your drinking, or just cutting back, the Try Dry® app is your trusted year-round support system.

Why should I download Try Dry®?
• Track your units, calories and money saved
• Set goals that work for you
• Loads of great badges to achieve with in-app celebrations
• Access our exclusive free coaching email programme

Why cut down your drinking?
• Better sleep. More energy. Glowing skin (yes, really).

• Get healthier - cutting back on the booze lowers your risks of over 60 serious medical conditions including heart disease, stroke, and 7 cancers
• Take control – if alcohol has become a habit, break free and take full control
• Be more present, enjoy life more, and really be there for your family and friends.

A huge help!

I’m surprised at the reasonably low rating for this app. Almost a year on since dry January 2020 and I still use it daily. I managed 3 months fully dry in a row and have since managed to reduce my drinking to a completely healthy level. 12 months on, my drinking habits are completely changed. I now don’t drink at all during the week and drink less at the weekend than I ever used to.I now enjoy and look forward to a drink rather than it being a necessity. Without this app I would never be on this position. Will power required of course but a fantastic assistant along the way.

Suggestions for app improvement: If you guys can fix the login out issue that occurs regularly that would be great and also when you add drinks on planned drinking days it would be nice to select 1, 2 or 3 identical drinks at the same time (a quantity select) instead of having to enter every drink individually. As this takes too long in my opinion.

Looking forward to dry Jan 2021!

Very helpful

Very helpful app, whether you’re just using it for Dry January or planning to stay sober for longer. It’ll help you save money too, of course!
The visual aspect means that the ever-growing rows of yellow stayed-dry icons on your calendar act as an incentive to keep going. And if you do lapse on occasion (as I have) the simple visuals help you choose to look at the positive of all those yellow icons and feel smug (!) at how well you’ve done, and look on the occasional black icon in a sea of yellow as just a blip.
Easy to correct mistakes, too. If you log a day as dry but later remember you’d had a drink, just click on the date in the calendar and then on ‘I had a drink’ in the following screen. And if you enter your drinks in the wrong date, just click on the date in question and then in View your drinks’ in the following screen, where you can either add more drinks or remove them by swiping and hitting Delete.

Developer Response ,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a 5* review - we really appreciate it! It's great to hear that the visual aspect of the app is helpful for you. Thanks for your interesting feedback too. Best wishes.

Very happy

This app has worked well for me, it seems very intuitive and simple to use with occasional, well timed and informative updates. Personally I haven’t experienced any bugs or issues.
If you do have a drink you can list exactly what you had, which makes me feel better looking back to see even if I did have a drink (on one occasion may I add!) it was only 2 glasses of wine (which is still something to be proud of!) rather than a ‘X FAIL’ feeling!
This and reading the book ‘Easy way to control Alcohol’ combined have made what I thought would be very difficult a walk in the park! I see you can set further challenges such as ‘sober spring’ and I intend to continue using this app after Jan to monitor and log my long term reduction in drinking. It’s brill! Don’t wait til next year start it NOW!
