Probably better than the WaniKani website

Gotta love something that performs even better than the native website. Without this app, I think I might’ve given up on WaniKani eons ago. This thing has been carrying me throughout this journey, and the fact that it’s still in development means that it just keeps on getting better and better.

Granted, you could install scripts onto the original website, but they can be buggy at times. This app, with all the bonus features like funky fonts, offline reviews, skipping/redoing, and user/review stats to name a few, runs so cleanly it’s hard to believe this is a third-party application. Honestly, it’s hard to say how much I love this app.

(Also, thank you so much for adding the ability to hide the reading/meaning of an item if you get one of the others wrong! I can finally rate this 5 stars without any doubts.)

WaniKani’s ideal mobile companion

I have been a user of this app for many months now and I cannot say it enough how good this app really is. It loads fast, it’s reliable and loads lessons and reviews for offline consumption, the text reads clearly and it also has some very useful features like overriding reviews if a user commits a typo. A big “thank you” to the developer for having created such a useful app! (and for free although buying an app like this would be a no brainer)

Works perfectly and syncs effortlessly with your wanikani account, so even if I switch between the desktop wanikani on my laptop and this app on my phone, the progress is almost immediately synchronised.

So far the main thing I think it needs adding is the option to choose between the male and the female voice recordings, because I listen to both specifically to catch the subtle differences (such as the nasal ‘g’ sound that the male has), but at the moment you have to keep hitting the audio icon until you get the other one, sometimes it takes 10 tries which is not the end of the world but would be a great addition if we could choose just as you can in the full version of wanikani.

Otherwise, super happy with this app and I use it several times every single day 👍🏻
