Ratings and Reviews
I’ve had some kind of smart phone for a few years now and wanted to find a good app for walking with. Having used another well known app for recording my Walkies and workouts for a couple of years I came to realise that something was missing........Maps. During that time I had purchased os online maps but it was in its infancy and I couldn’t get on with it as os played around and made changes I’d payed for two years subscription and only logged on on the computer twice. I’d downloaded a walking map app but it was really after users buying maps. After some frustrating experience I decided to just forget the whole idea for a while.
I joined some walking groups on FB and it seemed folk were using two different apps with relative ease ViewRanger was on my radar more so and was then recommended so I downloaded it. I didn’t get my hopes up and only gave it a look at this weekend while away walking in Wales. Messing around with it I found out how to plot and save a local route out from the hotel and had an awesome evenings walking around Swiss Valley reservoir. So the following morning I plotted another route around Furnace pond and was back in time for breakfast. I’m over the moon with this app and wanted to recommend it so download it now and go use it, stay safe, Enjoy!!!
An essential App for hiking.
Not wanting the added expense of purchasing a separate GPS unit, this App provides ease of use coupled with a comprehensive system that enables offline/online usage. Proven a life saver when taken a wrong turn when walking in hills or woods but I’ve only tended to use as a backup alongside a physical OS map. The option to get the more detailed terrain specific area maps is handy for research/planning. The access to both national organisation’s and individual walks through the community link is extremely useful, especially when walking in a new location. Not having used the Skyline function yet I cannot provide an accurate assessment of it, from what I’ve looked into though, it would be beneficial for making real time adjustments to a route to circumvent difficulties. Overall, this is a excellent App that works well with the iOS on both the SE (during) & iPad (pre & post analysis). Definite value for money.
What an upgrade!
Every time I wished the app would do X or Y it magically appears in the next update. I wanted it to be easier to switch between map upright / turn to my direction. Before you had the go into the settings each time, then they changed it to a simple button press on the location button. The latest update features a ‘snap to footpath/bridalway/trail’ feature which is unbelievably handy and I imagine been technically hard to implement, they even had the foresight to make this easily activated/deactivated as you’re plotting a route (which has also been made much easier but pressing and holding to add waypoints rather than having to click add each time). Basically the dev team should be congratulated on their brilliant focus on an excellent user experience. So often app developers lose sight of what’s needed to make apps good to use but these guys are obviously very focussed on the end user. Thank you.
