ViewRanger: Hike, Ride or Walk 4+

I have been a customer of ViewRanger for many years and have found that it fitted perfectly with my walking requirements. When I had any problems your support was always there to help and advise me and use my technology to get the best from your product. I have always felt that the the developers fully understood and provided what their customers needed rather than what was possible. In many ways the uncomplicated and logical interface has made things comfortable and rewarding. My walk/hiking experience has been enhanced by having your product with me on my phone. The USP must have been the ability to down load the tiles of maps that I needed for my activity and build up my resource. In many ways ViewRanger has been responsible for my discovering new walks locally and while away. With the notification of the closing down of ViewRanger I just wanted to say one final thank you.

Every time I wished the app would do X or Y it magically appears in the next update. I wanted it to be easier to switch between map upright / turn to my direction. Before you had the go into the settings each time, then they changed it to a simple button press on the location button. The latest update features a ‘snap to footpath/bridalway/trail’ feature which is unbelievably handy and I imagine been technically hard to implement, they even had the foresight to make this easily activated/deactivated as you’re plotting a route (which has also been made much easier but pressing and holding to add waypoints rather than having to click add each time). Basically the dev team should be congratulated on their brilliant focus on an excellent user experience. So often app developers lose sight of what’s needed to make apps good to use but these guys are obviously very focussed on the end user. Thank you.

Not wanting the added expense of purchasing a separate GPS unit, this App provides ease of use coupled with a comprehensive system that enables offline/online usage. Proven a life saver when taken a wrong turn when walking in hills or woods but I’ve only tended to use as a backup alongside a physical OS map. The option to get the more detailed terrain specific area maps is handy for research/planning. The access to both national organisation’s and individual walks through the community link is extremely useful, especially when walking in a new location. Not having used the Skyline function yet I cannot provide an accurate assessment of it, from what I’ve looked into though, it would be beneficial for making real time adjustments to a route to circumvent difficulties. Overall, this is a excellent App that works well with the iOS on both the SE (during) & iPad (pre & post analysis). Definite value for money.
