Virtual Regatta Inshore 4+

I’m not new to sailing but new to yacht racing. I got into VR due to lockdown and sailing withdrawal symptoms.
Once you get used to the controls, it works in principle. You can refine you basic tactics and develop strategy. I am enjoying it a lot, but don’t get hung up on the finer points of the rules of racing. In particular rule 17 - it’s too easy for a close competitor to penalise you by not sailing a proper course and ramming you before you have time to react. It encourages defensive tactics which is not a bad thing. Great fun. Get it.

This game could be great. It is fluid, exciting and follows a lot of sail racing principles, but it is very flawed, to the point where it allows others to blatantly cheat and get away with it.
The fact that the developers clearly cannot be bothered to work out the physics of collisions, and they’ve made each boat effectively see through, which just doesn’t make sense and adds to the frustration I feel about how this game works. Would a car racing game work like this NO. Cars collide, bounce off each other with consequences.
If boats collide then they should collide, not overlap each other and there should be consequences for deliberately sailing into an opponent, which isn’t the case in this game.
Example, racing down wind a boat catches you up and deliberately sails into your transom!! Penalty to me, which is ridiculous. I had one idiot (who clearly has a small penis) do this 5 times on a run to the finish line. It spoilt my game as at last I was in a decent position.
If you want me to take this game seriously developers, it needs major changes and it would be great. At the moment it is poor.

The absaloute disregard to how long it takes boatspeed to build from standing still I epically out. Watch how many races have someone take a good lead from starting slightly behind bu coming in with full boat speed. Big disadvantage to someone who knows starting tactics. It’s even more silly in the bigger boats when a boat with sails flapping can get a better start sheeting in on starters gun than one coming in at full tilt.

Also I am fed up with people tacking right in front of me and me being penalised because they are going to slow to allow a safe tack iirc if I have to avoid someone taking in front of me it used to be them that was in wrong.

A nice game but a little working polishing off and tweaking the above and a few other things would certainly get this into a much higher star category but having to change tactics to suit game and not what would work on real races is a bit meh :(
