VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player. It can play all your movies, shows and music in most formats directly without conversion. It allows file synchronization with Dropbox, GDrive, OneDrive, Box, iCloud Drive, iTunes, direct downloads and through Wi-Fi sharing as well as streaming from SMB, FTP, SFTP, NFS, UPnP/DLNA media servers and the web. VLC offers support for advanced subtitles including full SSA compatibility, multi-track audio, playback speed control and rendering through Chromecast. VLC is completely free and open source.

At last an app where I can play music from Files in playlists

I can now import my own music free of a computer from the Files app into VLC and create playlists with them. This will be great for when I'm at work and I can't put them on Soundcloud due to copyright restrictions. It's great when I'm on Minecraft too because now I don't have to keep switching back to the Files app to change the song. However, it sometimes doesn't play audio when my phone is locked and says 'playback failed' when you unlock it. Please fix this. Also, it would be nice if you could move multiple songs in a list at the same time.

I can now import my own music free of a computer from the Files app into VLC and create playlists with them. Hello VLC team,I’m using VLC on iOS and I’d like to suggest an improvement regarding playlist controls.Currently, in the playlist view, swiping left on an item immediately triggers a delete action. The issue is that this gesture is very easy to trigger accidentally during normal scrolling or navigation, especially on smaller touch screens.In practice, this leads to unintended deletions of songs or media items, sometimes without the user realising until later. Since playlists can contain a large number of files, even a small accidental swipe can cause frustration and data management issues.Suggested improvement:It would be very helpful to have one or more of the following options:* A setting to disable swipe-to-delete gestures in playlists* Or an option to require confirmation before deleting via swipe* Or the ability to limit deletion actions to “Edit/Select mode” onlyThis would preserve usability for users who like quick gestures, while also providing a safer mode for those managing larger libraries or sensitive playlists.VLC is widely used as a media player, and improving safety around accidental deletion would significantly enhance the user experience, especially on mobile devices.Thank you for your work on VLC — it’s an excellent app and widely appreciated.Kind regards Abdisaid

Was great now a buggy mess

I have been using this got around a year and while it worked great back then now it’s a problem. Tap the app 10 times and it quits and resets. Listen to tracks and the app quits for no reason. I listen to my DJ sets on this but now it’s stopped playing them and quits to reset meaning you can’t listen from where it quits. Also the artwork features buggy and doesn’t recognise artwork or just repeats other album artwork instead. It started quitting randomly after an update to iOS a year ago and it’s gotten worse now with more subsequent iOS updates. I don’t think this app gets updated anymore to iron the kinks out caused by iOS updates. It’s a really a shame cos it worked great once now you get frustrating bugs and random quits and ten taps = quit app. I am going to have to look for another free player to use now.Update recently fixed some bugs but the app still quits and reset during playback. Frustrating.

A great music player, once you work out how to get your songs into it. The way it sorts music is great. You can view all your songs from a particular artist, which you can’t do in the default Music app, and the UI is clear and straightforward. The instructions for getting music into the app weren’t very clear (you have to either use one of the options in the “Network” tab, or plug your iPhone into your computer and copy and paste songs into the “VLC” folder on the iPhone). Rewording the content in the “Learn more” screen with some concrete instructions on what to do and where the settings are would have been very useful. Once your music is in, the app even supports Chromecasting and has several customisation options. It looks surprisingly good, especially in dark mode. I do agree with another user though that the swipe to change volume by default feels counter-intuitive, as I usually associate that gesture with closing a panel. Overall, am really glad I’ve switched to VLC. It’s a great music player and it means I’m no longer tied to using Apple Music on my computer to manage my music.
