VMware Horizon Client for iOS makes it easy to work on your VMware Horizon virtual desktop and hosted applications from your iPhone or iPad, giving you on-the-go access from any location.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A VMware Horizon virtual desktop or hosted application is required to use the VMware Horizon Client for iOS. Contact your IT department for further assistance.

The VMware Blast Extreme protocol used with Horizon 7 is designed and optimized for mobile users. Blast Extreme leverages H.264 hardware decoding to deliver the best remote experience while reducing power consumption.

VMware Horizon 6 and later supports hosted applications in addition to virtual desktops. With hosted applications, leave the desktop behind and run applications like local iOS apps.

Unity Touch bridges the gap between your touch screen and your Windows applications. With Unity Touch, you can easily browse, search, and open Windows applications & files, choose favorite applications and files, and switch between running applications all without the Start Menu or Task Bar.

With an external monitor or AirPlay, your iPhone or iPad display turns into a trackpad / keyboard while the external screen shows your VMware Horizon desktop.

The adaptive capabilities of the Blast Extreme and PCoIP display protocol make your virtual desktop fast and responsive regardless of whether you are connecting over your corporate WiFi network or over a cellular connection at a local café.

Whether you’re at your desk or away from the office, you’re always secure with VMware Horizon. Leverage smart card authentication with the Biometric Associates baiMobile 301MP smart card reader. Use the integrated RSA soft token for simpler access.

Individual users of the VMware Horizon Client for iOS should contact their internal IT help desk or visit Only Support Administrators listed on a Basic or Production Support contract for VMware Horizon may log a service ticket with VMware Technical Support

OK for emergency use

This app functions but the UI is not usable for anything but emergency use when you are willing to struggle with a UI which is plagued by the pop up widget, which given recently improved iOS support for mouse a keyboard, is not required.
If this had normal mouse and keyboard support it would be excellent, but their lack makes it a frustrating and disappointing experience.
From a large software house this is a poor attempt.

Addition of Mouse and Keyboard controls needed for IPad Pro

The app itself is better than using the web version in terms of refresh, timeout and screen resolution compatibility issues (the screen quite often resizes to all sorts of weird resolutions on the web app) but the app is only set up for touch screen input. In reality most people who are using this app are likely to have peripherals attached via Bluetooth and / or other so the mouse right click (can be done by long hold of left click), drag highlight text, copy, paste functionality are essential to actually use this app. Have been generous i giving it 3 stars on the basis for touch screen users its probably ok and a better solution than the web version, but in reality is unusable with mouse and keyboard which a lot of users are likely want to use if they are connecting to a Remote Desktop. Would love to re-review once mouse / keyboard compatibility improves

Slowly getting there

So the app is slowly getting where it should be. Proper keyboard and mouse support is now added (you can finally select/highlight text and use right click to copy/paste when using external mouse) - i think the only issue left i have is that it takes a minute for the app to close the connection when you multitask on iPad e.g you switch from Horizon Client to iPads safari or mail app for more than few seconds and your session is gone when you switch back to Horizon, you need to login again which is a massive pain for multitaskers like me when I have to open a session every few mins.
