As a totally blind person, I have found this to be the easiest app to use for scanning documents as it does not seem to be quite as dependent on how well I focus the camera. It seems to be extremely accurate and I would recommend it.
A must for students who need custom text display formats
I have used Voice Dream Reader most of my Postgrad studies. It is particularly useful in seminars. I ask for PDFs in advance as an adjustment but not everyone sees this as important and I can end up with in class printouts instead. And those couldn’t be read without OCR.
This addition to the Voice Dream family is a game changer. It integrates with their reader app and means that I can display text from printed handouts in the fonts and colours I need to read it easily. I can now focus on the class and those tutors who aren’t interested in being inclusive can’t exclude me quite as much. Having agreed adjustments unmet really grates after a while, and other than complain there wasn’t much I could do. Many other OCRs need active internet connections. With this new app which works on the device alone, I’m back in control of my learning.
I have been shouting at Disabled Students Allowance needs assessors about Voice Dream for years, but far inferior products were pushed on me instead because they had OCR even if they only worked on desktops and their text display options were rubbish. Now I can shout even louder that this should be offered to all eligible students.
Life changing
I’m dyslexic, the fact that I can now scan documents at any time using my phone and then have those documents read out to me is literally life changing, The fact that it also stores the document for me to listen to again later is also invaluable. I also find it really helpful being able to save text to clipboard at any point and then have its contents read to me is sooooo useful. My ability to process information audibly is fine l, my ability to process information by reading is like wading through mud.
