Like a good denim jacket, VSCO's got a coolness factor that can’t be measured. It isn’t just a set of perfectly made film-emulation presets and editing tools. It’s also a community of more than 30 million creators sharing and discovering their work—photography so striking it’ll make you wanna march outside and snap some of your own.

Brilliant App, Some Frustrating Teething Issues

This is an app I have used for many years. Offering an all in one, photo-sharing platform with the emphasis on photo and not on “likes” or “followers”. This app has given me high levels of inspiration only matched by the quality of VSCO’s photo editing experience, an app I would recommend to anyone in love with the beauty of photography and aesthetic.

However, since recent updates I have experienced frustrating levels of unpredictability, when exporting photos. Problems I have never had before, have now started happening when saving photos onto my camera roll. The most persistent being the presence of black squares, rectangles and boxes covering parts of the photo, like some sort of glitch in the rendering. This is extremely frustrating and unfortunately may be enough to push me away from the application all together. A decision I would never take lightly, with VSCO being such a fundamental part of my workflow and my down-time. Yet I also have full confidence that this should be merely a teething issue, following the app’s recent facelift.

I hope these rendering problems are solved in swift time, so I can continue to experience the full extent of an app experience I have came to love, in VSCO.

Love, love, LOVE VSCO but …

As someone who likes to keep things private, VSCO is a great app for me to share snapshots of my life without giving away too much information about me or my life. In my opinion, VSCO is so much better than other social media platforms that no longer revolve around YOU and your profile but rather other people and their lives.

The only thing that puts me off (badly) VSCO is that you’re unable to make your account private. This is a major major let down for me because like I said before, I value my privacy a lot and I am sure a lot of other people who use VSCO rather than other social media platforms feel the same way. It’s deeply unsettling knowing that anyone could see my account and what I post and this severely limits what I can post as well as the joy I get from using this app.

I really do hope that VSCO adds a private account feature someday soon as it has been a topic of great discussion for the past few years but nothing has been done which to be honest doesn’t make me very hopeful at all :( I would really love to continue using this app but in all honesty, I think I’ll have to stick to Instagram since it gives me a place to post whatever I like knowing that only those closest to me can see.
