Description
WAYFINDER is a generative art game that takes the user on a contemplative cause-and-effect journey with nature. Symbolizing the give-and-take relationship humans have with the natural world, users move a mystical character through forest, grasslands and tundra in search of poetic tokens dotting the landscape. When activated, they reveal words hidden in the wind, breathing new life into the nearby flora and fauna. Flowers grow at the character’s feet, leaves bloom on the bare trees, birds and butterflies emerge. As the user continues on their journey, these uncovered words combine into verse, expressing our eternal need to capture nature’s fleeting moments in poetry.
Each experience of WAYFINDER is as unique and ephemeral as the natural world itself. The visual assets are assembled procedurally and delivered in real-time. The lines of poetry are created with a mix of artificial intelligence, machine learning and generative processes, providing thousands of possible combinations. As such, Wayfinder is an ever-changing, emergent artwork with infinite possibilities.
Blurring the line between video game, animated short and interactive poem, WAYFINDER is produced by the NFB and the latest project by artist and creative coder Matt DesLauriers.

Ratings and Reviews
Truly adorable <3
Very cute and unfortunately short game. No explicit instructions, it lets you think a little and figure things out. Love the poems and simplicity of the game - most definitely loved the changes of scenery.
Wish there was a bit more free roam of a larger area at the end, but apart from that, I love this!
The sort of ‘worthy’ game aspiring middle-class parents think their children should play
New-age values; Eastern-bloc cartoon aesthetic; next-to-no gameplay; ‘poems’ (in the loosest sense) to collect.
* Moving vaguely near things to collect them, without any difficulty (let alone difficulty progression), does not really constitute a game.
* Wishy-washy, unchallenging & very (& I mean VERY) short.
* I was distracted by something more interesting in the real world while leaving my finger on the screen & still completed that level.
2 stars, solely for the art style - I just wish the developers had made something approaching an adequate product with it.
If you want to do your bit to help the environment, don’t waste electricity downloading, ‘playing’ & ultimately deleting this damp dishcloth of a game.
Frankly disappointing, but I’m not at all surprised.
Beautiful!
A gorgeous game filled with fantastic artwork and music. It’s short but sweet and because there’s not a plot as much, it’s easy to play again and again!! Definitely recommend 🫶🏼
