Description

As of September 15th, 2022, support for My Passport Wireless will be limited to critical security updates. To learn more, see the description of "Limited Updates" on our Product Support Lifecycle page.

Support for your My Cloud device has changed, and some devices are no longer supported with this app. We’ve developed a new OS to keep up with evolving security standards. Compatible devices must be Upgraded to My Cloud OS 5 by January 15, 2022. Incompatible devices will lose support on April 15, 2022, and need to use local access to manage your content. For more details, please visit https://www.westerndigital.com/mycloudupdates.

Functionalities with the My Passport Wireless products remain unchanged. You can continue to wirelessly access, organize and stream content from your phone or tablet using the My Passport Wireless app.

Note: The My Passport Wireless app requires a My Passport Wireless device to work (sold separately).

Feedback

I can’t find anywhere to provide feedback so here it goes.. great app but could do with some tweaks. I use it a lot to access my photos when away from home but a few things could be improved. If photos are numbered in a collection then they aren’t displayed in the correct way when sorted A-Z... eg. 1,10,100,101,102,103. Another annoying thing, when you scroll through a list of photos and click on one to view it - when you click back, you lose your scroll and it goes back to the top of the list. Another suggestion would be that when you click to copy the photo, it downloads the whole file.. if the photo is 4mb+ it can take a while to get it.. the suggestion would be to give an option to download the file as a small file (100kb perhaps), medium, large, full size.. hope that feedback can be incorporated somewhere

Great media player

I wanted to save all my movies and music to a drive and be able to use a media player to access them from anywhere in the world. After a lot of research I settled on a MyCloudEx2Ultra (8Tb). This NAS does the job for me. My movies and music collection are now digitally saved and packed away, creating masses of space in my bookcases and making my home a lot tidier. I now have a fully catalogued library of films and music, easy to search on, easy to play. The unit is small, inconspicuous and sits under a side console table where it connects via the supplied cable directly to my router.
It comes with some good apps. My preference is to use Plex for movies and when listening to music through my Bose system, I connect via my network to the My Cloud device and stream from there.
Set up was relatively easy, and although the process didn’t quite follow the online instructions, I got it up and running in a couple of hours. It wasn’t too much of a technical challenge, but it’s not totally plug and play either. There are good online forums to help if you get stuck and a general search on the internet will usually find the solution. It’s been working faultlessly for a couple of years now.
Would definitely recommend.

Cost me money

Since we have we cloud drive we really on this app a lot. It works for the most part, it ain’t pretty though. I’m sure. Other people here have listed some of its issues but I wanted to bring up one major problem which cost us 50 quid, but could have potentially cost us several times that.

So we out camping, using a hotspot to link iPad to our Wd cloud and we put on 200mg video to fall asleep too. Over a couple of nights we watch maybe 3 or 4 similar videos, so am shocked to see we somehow burnt through 20 gigs in 2 nights. We switch to a different phone hotspot for the next night but I keep close eye on this app and I find that WD Mycloud is trying to download the same video again and again and again and again even when the video (on VLC player) is not playing, Wd cloud just keeps on downloading the same video so instead of using 200meg data, it’s pulling that every 15 mins, so over one night, after the video has stopped playing and the iPad has gone to sleep, Wd cloud is pulling gigs.

You would think, at the very least, an app like this which has been developed to give you remote access to your nas drive would have some kind of counter or interface that shows you how much data you are using. It’s like they put the minimum of work into what should be their showcase app. If this is the best they can do I will struggle to find a reason to stick with WD when we are looking for a new NAS drive.
