Ratings and Reviews
Being haunted by Japit
love playing this, the art is gorgeous and the challenge level is perfect for me! not easy at all but not impossible to beat. minor issue: when i leave the game and go back in to start a new run, it always asks if i want to continue the first run I ever did as Japit. I have to press give up again every time. Apart from that I’ve had no crashes or bugs with the demo or full version :)
One of the best card roguelike
I'm sure there are more eloquently written reviews of this game on Steam. But here's my 2c as a fan of this game.
The three races/classes/families(?) provide a variety in playstyles, while the different status effects and possible combos make each battle a fun little puzzle.
It is hard, sometimes frustratingly so especially after you've beat the frost guardian and a new more OP one has ascended. But I believe that they have made many improvements to the early game experience and balancing out the frost guardian's stats.
They've also added challenge bells that you can pick and choose which makes the game more challenging and closer to the launch state difficulty. This allows you to spice things up and adjust the difficulty to your liking.
It is also very well paced and each battle doesn't feel drawn out or unbalanced. Every battle is winnable assuming you make the right choices and rarely do you feel that you lost because the boss was too OP, instead invoking "if only I had that one charm" and makes you go "Just one more run".
I've been looking forward to an iOS/iPad release since the first time I played it on the Switch on its first release and realised that it had touch support. I have since bought this game on steam and now on iOS to allow me the pleasure of getting my wildfrost fix on the go.
Better than vanilla slay the spire
Wildfrost takes the strategic depth of Slay the Spire and ramps up the challenge by requiring you to keep track when the enemy and your ally will attack. This added complexity might seem daunting at first, but it also makes the game incredibly rewarding once you get the hang of it. As much like how in slay the spire, you will get a few card + relic combo that make your dopamine fly up to heaven, the many unique interaction of wild frost charm interaction add in tactical depth that is all the more satisfying.
The game game heavily incentivizes creativity, pushing you to think outside the box with your card plays. For instance, where in Slay the Spire would it ever be beneficial to play a card that harms your own character? In Wildfrost, such unconventional strategies can be the key to victory. The game's unique mechanics and the satisfaction of mastering them make for a deeply engaging and enjoyable experience.
