I can still see some ads when browsing. The ones which come to mind are ads on Twitch, similarly i see promoted tweets on twitter. Using UBlock i dont see either of these things so i think there is still a way to go with Wipr considering this is a paid app.
I like Wipr, it works well, but I never know whether I've turned it on or off for a site, so I spend mental energy figuring out whether the site is broken before I remember to check "Settings for <site>"So it needs at the least an indicator in the toolbar to be something I really value. Otherwise I flip-flop between this and ABP (never both at the same time)
The initial setup process wasn't very clear. Turns out you have to run the app, click "Get Rid of Ads and Trackers" and then make sure the Wipr Safari Extension(s) are enabled (off by default for me). So could do with an improved on-boarding experience. After that works as expected and no issue so far. So a big thumbs up :-)
I want to be supportive of this extension, but too often do I need to open Safari preferences, go to Extensions, and disable Wipr Part 1, 2, 3, and reload the page in order for a website's basic functionality to start working. For example, a consent form might not be shown when the extension is running. It's tedious to the point where I now keep the extension disabled as it breaks the web too much.
Whenever I do google searches on Safari now it doesn't allow me to click the links, opening a blank tab instead. Disabling this extension solves the issue, so it's definitely this app that causes the problem. It's been happening to me for weeks, so I can't believe they haven't issued a patch for it yet... definitely not worth paying money for if they can't respond to something so simple in a reasonable amount of time.
Actually works, which is the main thing. On top of that, it's simple, intuitive, and doesn't slow the browser down at all. Worth every penny and more!
Everything works well and as expected. One addition I'd like would be for a Wipr icon on the safari toolbar (like what is found in adblock etc) for the quick disabling of Wipr when needed. It is cumbersome and frustrating to navigate menus in order to temporarily disable it.
I had a problem duo to missing Wipr extra icon. Everything worked but I could not see Wipr icon in Safari. Fixed in two days! Thanks
Wipr does what it says it does. It's regularly updated. And the developer keeps everyone updated with development on the Fediverse. A good app by a great developer.
I appreciate that the app is light and keeps my Safari running smoothly, unlike other ad blockers that slow things down.
Not sure if the negative reviews are based on, but if you follow the steps and activate the settings properly it works. Thank you!
To be honest i get this app back in days when Apple blocked 3rd party extensions in safari. There was no other add blockers avalible. Christ its not filtering anything at all!Try go on your worst website and with wpir on you still will be flooded with popups and adverts!Dont get how apple is not taking this scam off store, to be honest. Developers left boat long time ago
