Quite Disappointing but still great
I had had Pottermore for quite some time and absolutely loved it when I realised there was an app coming out I was very excited but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations and I was quite let down it took away some of the things that were on pottermore and did not really have much to do, no games or cool functions like to explore around Hogwarts which could have been cool and there was no Ilvermorny Sorting Quiz which I quite liked because I’m one of the people who like Fantastic Beasts and where to find them and The Crimes of Grindelwald. I wish there was more to do that just polls, quizzes and reading articles other than that if you want to expand your Harry Potter knowledge and I totally recommend it And note this is not a bad review but I kind of wanted more but still I love this app. If you read this all the way here, thank you for taking the time to read this Review hope you enjoy the app
A couple of issues
The app as a whole is fine, if a little arbitrary when the website worked as a stand-alone, but the interface is finicky by design, particularly on the sorting hat quiz. The motion controls are an odd choice but there’s not much wrong with it, the tap and hold mechanic is more of a problem; the timing too short, and you can accidentally press answers, especially on the questions where you have to drag along the screen to see all the options. The idea is that you’re charging and releasing a spell, but as lovely and whimsical as that is, the vision shouldn’t get in the way off the functionality of the app. Another half second or two and the problem disappears without any cost to the feel of the app. Another way to fix this would be an option to go back and change your answer in the quiz, though I think the other solution is better since it preserves the idea of your first instinct being the truest, at least in terms of a magical personality quiz organised by a fictional talking hat.
Good but could be better
The design of the app is good - character bios are especially eye appealing. The way quizzes work is enjoyable. The sorting experience is excellent - I like the variety of ways each question is answered - the various features of iOS are utilitised well. The most annoying thing is that the app does not remember the last state if you switch apps - it reloads back to the main page every time - this is extremely irritating if you were in the middle of reading something and answer a call! Also there are some features available on the website that are missing from the app, such as information about your wand. I’d also like a way of filtering Wizarding Weekly by read/unread and sorting by oldest to newest - scrolling down pages and pages to find the next one to read is tedious.
