Word Lock Most apps are designed to keep you scrolling. Word Lock asks you to think first. Solve a fresh three-word crossword before you open your favourite apps. Each puzzle pulls from five categories: History, Geography, Science, Literature and People. The words are both challenging and rewarding. You'll either learn something new or dig a word out from your beautiful brain (just give it a chance). You can cheat with hints if you just want to get words out the way. OR aim for clean sweeps with zero hints. The greener your word bank the healthier your brain. Designed to hijack your impulsive phone pick ups and turn them into a moment of thought or micro lesson. Complete the puzzle, sit with the clues and once you solve it you can choose to open your distracting apps, complete enough puzzle, or put the phone down again. Your choice! Each puzzle earns you a special "ONE TO LEARN". Not a common word. Something genuinely interesting. Something worth sharing. APRICITY. KINTSUGI. PETRICHOR. Words that make you stop and think. We’re all wired to pick up our phones and check social media. It’s an impulse. Word lock turns that impulsive pick up into a pause for thought or micro learning moment. So you will either break the impulse and not doom scroll as you take a moment to think of a word instead. Or you’ll learn the word (just tap hint!) and reward yourself with access to the apps you blocked for the set unlock duration.You also learn a beautiful long word or phrase after each puzzle is complete. All of these get added to your word bank and you can tap on them to open a broader definition and history. Real learning!Words categories are general knowledge, history, geography, people, science and more to come (so I hear).Anyway, it feels like a perfect solution to quit doom scrolling and fix brain rot by hijacking the impulses into our advantage. The beauty is it gives you the chance to take a moment and think about an answer OR just use the hints to reveal the word to learn it.Words that use hints will come up again shortly in a new puzzle, but this time you'll know the answer! Letting you solve it yourself to get a clean sweep.You could use Word Lock without blocking apps to get the full value but the odd benefit of having the impulse to pick up brain rot apps is an opportunity to learn something new on the pathway there. As you build a habit you may juts prefer doing mini crossword puzzles instead of doomscrolling. That's the goal here. You are training focus and steadily fixing your brain.Crosswords have been around for over 100 years and have been the peoples favourite for challenging themselves and keeping sharp. By making them tiny and quick the challenge isn't as daunting as a full puzzle to attend to. You can fly through them each time.We really believe this is a way to protect your brain for the future. It's been tried and tested and is making REAL impacts to screen time and learning amazing words in the English language.You'll probably become a quiz master quicker than you think.This is the beginning of the journey.Enjoy Word Lock!

Simple app blocker that is actually helping me learn words

World lock is such a clever screen time app! Like most of us I have the impulse to check apps that I don’t really need to. So this is turning that impulse of picking up to doomscroll into a little moment to pause and think or learns new words in the process. Very easy to setup app blocking and help me stay focused. Love it.

I love this app. It’s such a brilliant idea and has been really helpful in cutting down my screen time and breaking that cycle for me! Makes me think twice before getting on the usual apps that steal my time. And then it’s such a great way to use my brain, feels like a good exercise. And fun. Highly recommend! Love it.
